Sequels

So its universally acknowledged that the original films are infinatly better than the sequels but of course, as with everything, some things dont follow the norm.

Are there any sequels which you think are better than the original film? And whys that?

I know it's pretty much the bog standard answer, but I'll throw Godfather 2 into the mix. It's just an awesome story with great use of two great actors, moving from present to past times seemlessly and with a pretty damn shocking conclusion.

From a completely different genre I'd also mention Empire Strikes Back which urinates all over the original Star Wars movie. Probably because the characters were already know to us and the "secrets" became more revealed.

Lastly, I'd nominate Spunky Birthday 2 as being better than Spunky Birthday, simply because the quality of the women and the money shots were far better!!

^^^Godfather part II is the greatest American film, ever. And Empire def pwns Star Wars. Both good calls.

As for my input..........IM starting to draw blanks. Iron Eagle 2 was way better than 1, although most would prob tell me they both sucked.


OOHH! Back To The Future 2 imo was better than one.

Anything but the Present

America has no now. We're reluctant to acknowledge the present. It's too embarrassing.

Instead, we reach into the past. Our culture is composed of sequels, reruns, remakes, revivals, reissues, rereleases, re-creations, reenactments, adaptations, anniversaries, memorabilia, oldies radio, and nostalgia record collections. World War II has been regought on television so many times, the Germans and Japanese are now drawing residuals.

Of course, being essentially out of shit, we sometiems feel the need to dress up this past preoccupation, as with pathetic references to reruns as "encore presentations".

American Pie 2 was so much better than the first. Didnt have the 'classic' jokes of the first but was funnier and we got to know the characters a little better and see them grow.

Damn you! I was gonna say that. I never wanted to watch those films, I was made to by some evil male and I have to say that I even enjoyed Spiderman 2 - so much so that to his surprise, i requested to watch it again.

Back to the Future Part 2 was better than the first.

But the main one to stick into my mind is Star Wars : Empire Strikes Back. The best of all the Star Wars movies.
