She was arrested in December after driving the wrong way down a Los Angeles motorway.

Ms Richie's sentence comes weeks after her Simple Life co-star Paris Hilton was released after 23 days in prison.
4 days?! Is there any point? She should have got at least 2 weeks, 4 days aren't going to make her think about what she has done.

But I guess going to jail is the new "thing to do" amongst the socialites of the world.

Edge will rise again...

Re: Richie follows in Paris' footsteps...

She will serve only 3 though becuase she got 1 day's credit for the initial 6 hours they had her locked up. Not that it makes a difference.

Celebs get away with anything now. The whole court process is a waste of money with things like this.

People always say "celebs get away with everything" but it's not just them, it's everyone. I know someone who got 3 felonies in a span of a couple months and only actually served 30 days.. the rest of the sentence is suspended..

We only notice when it happens to celebs because they are in the public eye.

It's random though depending on the judge and the history where with celebs they get generally lesser sentences due to different factors, mostly $$$ and fame in general.

We notice it more because:
A. The news sites like TMZ shove it in our face
B. There is an established pattern here with famous people getting lesser sentences

Re: Richie follows in Paris' footsteps...

good point blade...

My best friend has been on probation for about a year now for hitting two cops and resisting arrest. He got pulled over for running a stop sign and then a ticket also for a suspended driver licence. Well he had a court date the 9th of this month for breaking his probation and got sent to jail. He had f3, the felonies against him.

f1: hitting cop
f2: Hitting Cop
f3: Breaking Probation.

He Spent 13 Days in Jail. It was 23 hour lock up. Im glad he is out, but he did get lucky. I took him out to Golden Corral yesterday for some food cause jail food sucks. He then spent the rest of the night at some of his friends drinking. (he is only 20 and drinking is what got him in trouble in the first place.) I don't know if he got the picture yet on how lucky he is.

There's no question that high price lawyers can get the job done for you, but that's not just celebs either... it's people with money.

I agree that the system is screwed up but it's that way with everything..

On a side note, I hope these two bastards from Cheshire get tourtered (sp?) Devil's Rejects style for what they did to that poor doctor's family.

I can't go anywhere (remember I'm from CT) without hearing about this story.

Re: Richie follows in Paris' footsteps...

Lucky I am not in charge. If I was to be in charge you can bet your ass that making sure criminals get stricter punishment would be high on my agenda. Yeah it costs to keep them locked up, buy it has to be just as bad the way it is now, wasting time. If I was in charge...

#1. Gas vehicles would be replaced with electric
#2. DO away with all the political BS like what happened with katrina
#3. Stricter punishment across the board especially celebs and make an example of them as they are held in a higher regard than most people.
#4 Bomb France... I mean errr.....

It is too bad to hear that since she recently admitted she is pregnant. But I heard she is going to jail for 4 days, it won't take too long
