While Warner Bros. is hoping to get the SUPERMAN RETURNS follow-up MAN OF STEEL into theaters for the summer of 2009, that release date could be in jeopardy. Singer is about to start filming on VALKYRIE with Tom Cruise and according to producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan (CHICAGO) he won't be making SUPERMAN next.
They've got Singer lined up to direct THE MAYOR OF CASTRO STREET and expect him to start production in 2008 before SUPERMAN. "The next Superman, that's a ways off," says Meron, adding that they'll likely be in pre-production on CASTRO while Singer is doing post work on VALKYRIE. What about CASTRO hitting delays and SUPERMAN being Singer's next film? "Don't worry about it. Trust me," says Zadan.
Precious few details about SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL have leaked out and it's unclear exactly how much brainstorming has taken place about the sequel. One thing we do know is that Superman is featured in Warner Bros.' JUSTICE LEAGUE script but the studio wants both DARK KNIGHT and MAN OF STEEL finished before they decide on whether those characters will make an appearance in their familiar Bale/Routh form.

They should not make a second, that first was really bad. What was Singer thinking when he left x=3 to film that piece? Probably the same thing that I would be thinking, MONEY. Loads and Loads piled onto my doorstep.
I doubt the sequel will be delayed. Singer and crew have been acting like the sequel is next after Valkyrie, so I'll take their word for it over some producer's. In the end, Singer is going to have to come down to a decision--either Superman or Castro Street. And considering Warner Bros. isn't going to let anyone screw with their franchises, he's going to have to choose Superman.

Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.

If he's smart he will.
Superman will make him a hell of a lot more money and I believe he'll have more creative control over the picture.
You think it would be a more satisfying experience working on a movie like that but I can never predict Hollywood types any more.
