An activist group claims American Idol is Racist

Do racy internet photos of Antonella Barba (some real, some fake) tarnish the squeaky-clean family-friendly image of both the Idol contestant and the Idol franchise? Idol's producers obviously don't think so. They've decided to stand by Antonella. But four years ago, they weren't so supportive. They dismissed finalist Frenchie Davis when she told them about racy internet photos she had taken.

To many, the dismissal of Frenchie, but not Antonella, represents a double standard. And this Tuesday, March 6, civil rights activist Najee Ali is holding an anti-Idol rally to bring attention to this "racial bias" as he calls it. Ali said, "they can't have a rule for white contestants and have a different rule for black contestants."


Honestly, I highly doubt race played a factor. I'm not a big fan of idol but maybe the "White girl" was more talented, or had a better look, but I just doubt it's racism and IMO each time some idiot wants to step up and claim racism they're only furthering the whole "white black issues" Honestly they shouldn't immediatley assume it's race realted, I mean perhaps the other girl is better, or that society has changed in the last 4 years and this act is a little more acceptable.

This along with many things bother me with society. We have Miss America for all races, but we have a Miss Black America and all is fine... We have a Miss white america and we'll have an issue. And many other things like this are causing a greater divide and we are degressing because of this kind of crap. I swear if there is any action taken or a American Black Idol or whatever I quit... i don't know what yet, but I just quit.

You have to really be careful about what you say anymore or else you will be labeled racist. People throw that label around way too liberally.

Here is the thing... you can call me racist if you want but I am by all means and definition the furthest thing from racist and fovoring one race over another than it comes. What is racist is people who claim not to be but support something makes another race look inferior... or superior. Racism is not just holding down one race, but also raising one race above all others. I believe in equality for all people and when you have these contests, scholarships, awareness months/weeks, etc. You are in a way promoting racism by making yourself stand out from the fact that we are all the same. I could rant on about this, but I wanted to get the reasoning behind my afformentioned comments clear before anyone tries to dub me as being a racist.
