Re: Rap Sales Plummet

I don't mind the odd rap song, if it has decent lyrics. I have always liked Eminem. But I hate hearing about bitches, hoes, weed, coke, pimps, bling, asses etc. I feel like recently every song and music video is just a rehash of the previous one.

I don't know about anywhere else, but country is on a huge upswing here. Most bars in my town have a country night, there have been a few that have opened that exclusivly play country, and they would have never happened 5 years ago. We have farmers daughters nights all the time now. It's huge with the university crowd around here in Southern Ontario. I think that might have something to do with it. I know people who used to be huge rap fans, that love country now.

Re: Rap Sales Plummet

That seems like quite a strange turn around for people - to go from rap to country??

Men never grow up, they just grow older.

Re: Rap Sales Plummet

My point is probably not too valid, since I'm not a real fan of hip hop/rap/garage anything of that ilk.

I would concur with Erin that I do like quite a bit of Eminem's stuff, not so much because of the relative lack of just telling us how he has a gun and he's going to shoot some pimp or whatever, but more because of his diction and execution. I can just hear what he is saying, which makes a huge difference to any sort of music for me.

Maybe a lot of the other rappers have valid points to make about their lives, or life in general, but unless they can put them clearly and in a way in which the "average" person can actually comprehend what the hell they are talking about then how do they expect to get their message over?

Maybe it's just a thing where they are just talking about what Erin said, how would I know, I can't understand anything except the last word of every sentence!!

I appreciate though, that I'm not exactly their target audience!!

Re: Rap Sales Plummet

I can honestly say that country will NEVER be big here...

The problem with hip-hop, and honestly with all music, is that the vast majority of artists who are actually talented don't sell that well, so the record executives push them to the side in favor of what is "hot" like Young Jeezy or some other bullshit like that. And then they're determined to just keeping pumping out bullshit like that, without any thought to whether or not that trend/fad will die out.

Meanwhile, the Roots put out an album and most people don't even know it exists. Talib Kweli puts out an album and you don't hear a single song on the radio. It's a fucking tragedy

I hope that today's Popular Country doesn't become popular everywhere

Most of that cannot really even be classified as Country Music anyway.

It is far and away of what true Country Music is.

Re: Rap Sales Plummet

Today's Country is yesterdays "Light Rock"

Thus why you have so many cross over stars from country.

It's easy to turn their music onto a different market when it's esstenially what they want to hear any way.
