Which country provides/provided better TV down the years. I'm torn between the two, as in I think we used to have better quality TV but that now the only good stuff seems to come from Stateside. I'll give a few examples of good stuff from each before you make your minds up - US - 24 Prison Break Lost House Nip/Tuck Sopranos South Park Simpsons Family Guy UK - Father Ted Fawlty Towers Blackadder Dr Who Have I got news for you Cracker QI Knowing Me, Knowing You Red Dwarf Porridge Monty Python

Another one to put on there is "Rescue Me", it's on F/X. Do you guys get that show? The UKers also came up with "The Office", right? The US version is very funny, but I've heard the UK version is much better. Have yet to watch that version, but I'm sure I will soon.

I suppose also, from my point of view, it should also be taken into accoutn that we only tend to get the good/succesful US shows. Maybe the TV there isn't so great as one would think because I'm only ever able to see the supposed better stuff

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | It's a tough call. On first glance, the US kicks our ass. Lost, 24, House, South Park.. the list goes on and on and on. In terms of current television being produced, the US may just edge it. But the Brits do make fantastic drama TV that goes under-rated - Waking The Dead, Messiah, The Family Man, Touch of Frost, The State Within (Well worth a look). I think the USA beats us hands down for Sitcoms right now. No competition - The USA is churning out programmes like "Everybody Hates Chris", and we're churning out tripe like "My Hero" and "My Family". A sitcom the genius of Arrested Development is even cancelled in the USA! Over here with the right exposure, that could have been so much bigger than it was! (Which is almost entirely ignored) |

But, again, it must be sad that they've put huge amounts of wank out there as well on top of the good stuff, but the good stuff has been very, very good

However, it does seem to me like the overall quality of U.S. tv has improved lately. I've heard lots of good stuff about some of the newer shows, like Heroes, Friday Night Lights, and a few others. So, U.S. tv may be on an upswing...

All the UK programmes TD mentioned i watch except for Cracker & Knowing Me, Knowing You and they all are level with anything the US can produce.

The United States currently carries ZERO of them. Therefore its a bit hard for us to say that your TV is anything. GOD DAMN YOU FCC !!!
