The Dark Knight (Sequel to Batman Begins): Actor for The Joker Announced

Main article: The Dark Knight from wikipedia.com

On July 31, 2006, Warner Bros. announced that the sequel to Batman Begins would be titled The Dark Knight. Christopher Nolan, who directed Batman Begins, is slated to return at the helm. The screenplay will be scripted by his brother Jonathan Nolan, based on a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Christian Bale reprises his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman for the sequel. With the release of The Dark Knight, Bale will become only the second actor to have portrayed Bruce Wayne / Batman in more than one motion picture (Michael Keaton being the other). The studio announced that Heath Ledger will portray the Joker in the sequel, and screenwriter Goyer has said the character Harvey Dent will be also a major character. The film is slated for release in 2008.

I trust Nolan's decision on Heath Ledger. If he thinks Ledger can pull off a creepy, psychcotic Joker, then I think he can too.

When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.

I wasn't very happy with Batman Begins, and hated the first 40 minutes. Hopefully the sequel is better.

Wow, really? Personally I thought that it was the best interpretation of the Dark Knight to ever be put on screen. Burton's films were great (especially that first Batman), but lack the love of the comics that Begins has.

But considering that the origin of Batman is taken care of, I think the sequel will be more popular.

Fans debate about Jack's portrayal of the Joker a lot. Personally, I think he was great. The Joker does have a twisted sense of humor ("I'm glad you're dead!"). I also like how they kept true to the comics by having Joker announce his crimes. "New and improved Joker products with a new secret ingredient! Smilex!"

You want a campy portrayal of the Joker, look no further than the Batman TV series. Although I love that incarnation as well.

It was mainley the first 40 minutes I hated, but I don't like "origin" stories in general. The rest of the movie was OK, even though The Scarecrow was barely in it.

I have heard bad things about Batman Begins.

I haven't watched it yet.

Park the old car that I love the best
Inspections due and it won't pass the test
Funny how I have to put it to rest
And someday I will join it.
