Rep Power: 15 ![]() | Black Sterotypes In Movies I was just looking up some info on "Song of the South"(a movie that Disney has banned and has no intention of releasing on DVD) and got to thinking, what does everybody think about black sterotypes in movies and things like blackface being banned? I'm especially interested in what our black posters think(if there are any, i'm not sure to be honest). Basically any cartoon that featured the black stereotype: This lead to a group of Warner Bros. Cartoons called the "Censored 11", a list of cartoons featuring these sterotypes that Time Warner still refuses to sell or air(although the cartoon above "All This and Rabbit Stew" is in the public domain and is also availble on YouTube). One of the banned cartoons, an all black version of Snow White called " Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs", is even considered one of the greatest cartoons of all time. Even Speedy Gonzalez cartoons were banned in 1999 and only un-banned in 2002 after many Hispanics protested that they were NOT offenede by him and in fact had fond memories of watching the cartoons. So should these cartoons and other movies that feature negative stereotypes be banned and kept from the public, or should they be made available and just have a warning placed before them(like Warner Bros. did with "Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 3") that they may be offensive to some people? |

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | Haha, I've actually seen that Bugs Bunny cartoon pictured above! My mom has it on tape, so it must have bee manufactured before everyone got PC. Sure it's racist. But so are the black crows in "Dumbo." And to be truthful, I laughed out loud at the cartoon. And I'm not racist in the least. And no, these cartoons shouldn't be banned. We have freedom of speech for a reason and if people are offended by an artform, then all they have to do is not watch. Simple as that.
| When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. ...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. Luke 21:20-28 | ||

Rep Power: 10 ![]() ![]() | This is ridicilous. I've been doing a small project at Tafe about Political Correctness and i wish i knew about this before i filmed it. I'm no racist, hell my dad is black, but to have these cartoons banned is stupid. Sure don't make them now if people have a problem with it, but these cartoons are part of history and shouldn't be censored. Plus that cartoon above i have on tape and it's damn funny.
