Transformers Movie Gets Lead Actor

Having already dealt with marauding machines in the hit "I, Robot," Shia LaBeouf is in final negotiations to co-star opposite more advanced technology in "Transformers."

The "Battle of Shaker Heights" star would play the human lead in the expensive DreamWorks/Paramount production, which will be directed by Michael Bay.

According to the industry trades, production on "Transformers will begin in May. A July 4, 2007 release was already announced.

If you don't recall, Transformers were more than meets the eyes. They were, in fact, robots in disguise. The plot, if memory serves, found the Autobots waging their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons. The movie will probably follow suit in some manner. According to reports, LaBeouf won't play an Autobot or a Decepticon, but rather an 18-year-old who finds himself in the midst of this global war.

The Transformers brand was introduced in 1984 and became a phenomenon that has included a toy line from Hasbro and Takara, a comic book series, several animated television programs and an animated feature film.

LaBeouf just signed on for the lead in DreamWorks' "Disturbia." Last seen in "The Greatest Game Ever Played," he's already completed work on "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints" and "Bobby."

Personally i've never heard of this guy, but it's great to know more about the Transformers movie. July 2007 can't come soon enough for me.
