A History of Violence

I thought this movie was brilliant.

I rented this and Goodnight and Good Luck the other day. Both were great movies but A History of Violence was really my bag of turkey.

For one thing, just the general story and how it was directed. Cronenberg is a master. I really don't think the acting could've been better in this one either, William Hurt is a genius. He should be worshipped in some capacity.

The thing that I really enjoyed about this movie was that it had a great combo of "cool" + "insight" thrown together. It's just a cool movie on the surface but you add all the Freudian shit that was entrenched in it and it beecomes a really remarkable movie. I love movies that are like those and they are always my favorite. It's awesome when non-thinking you can just watch a movie and it's great and within it are all kinds of gems, something which really gives the story flesh and blood and a soul.

Shit, I thought it was better then Walk The Line, Crash, and everything else (that I've seen so far) from last year.

I'm excited about Capote coming out this week though.

I had to go to imdb.com and watch a trailer to this movie before I could even remember it. But now I remember seeing the trailers. I might give it a try sometime. I like most movies that Viggo Mortensen has been in.

I hate to disagree Miakal but Violence was one of the worst movies of last year in my opinion.

In the viewing we went to in the local cineplex people were booing when it ended and going to the counter asking for the money back. Yes i'm serious.

I never understood why it was so loved by critics. Its a depressing heap of a movie.

Yes....there was some solid performances in it and I get what the piece was trying to say.

I just hated the movie for what it was and it depressed the hell out of me.

You just don't see directors tackling a subject like that too often. I enjoyed how layered it was.

I didn't find it depressing at all. In the end he, and what he represented, found peace and came to term with things. At least that was my impression anyway.

I'm confused. I know the critics loved it, I know Joe hated it, and now I know Miakal loved it, but what is this film really about?

From watching the trailers and the previews it looked like a better version of an early 90's Steven Segal or JCVD shoot 'em up flick.

I guess that's way off, or is it?

It's about this guy who lives this small town life who apparently has a horrible past to contend with.

That's really just the surface of the film though. There's a lot of Freudian shit going on underneath it about man and his primal instincts vs. society.

I thought it was a good movie, not anything groundbreaking, but a good, entertaining movie. It had vilolence, nudity, a good story and bad language. That's all you really need to keep my attention.

I guess that I saw more to this movie then a lot of people. hahaha.

It really wasn't just a movie about this guy and his story. It was about man and his more primal pasts. Read some Freud. The RAPE scene says it all.
