Four injured by shots at downtown rap show

Four people were shot early Monday during a rap concert featuring Young Jock at a downtown club, Metro police said.

Metro patrol officers and Nashville firefighters were already at the King of Clubs at 901 Cowan St. investigating overcrowding when shots were fired about 12:30 a.m. on the dance floor, Metro police said. Witnesses reported hearing at least 10 shots inside.

Shawn Gray, 30, of Nashville was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the buttocks. Patrick Mitchell, 25, was taken to Baptist Hospital with a gunshot to the groin area.

Reginald Cooper, 22, of Nashville was treated and released from for a gunshot to the back of his head. Montez Odom, 23, of Nashville also was treated and released for a gunshot wound to the thigh.

A security guard told police he saw someone fire a weapon outside and put it in the trunk of his vehicle. A Nashville firetruck in the parking lot was struck by a round.

Gary Eugene Pitts, Jr., 21, of 1617 Lebanon Pike was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

Police found a loaded pistol in his vehicle after towing it to the impound lot. Pitts is a convicted felon and could face federal felony weapons possession charges, police said.

The club was more than 1,300 people over its official capacity of 1,700, police said. King of Clubs operator Paul Eichel was issues a citation of having a disorderly house, police said.
