I just watched this movie last night and I have to say I was very impressed.

Maggie (Hilary Swank) yearns to be a boxing champ, and calls on the help of trainer Frank Dunn (Clint Eastwood) to aid her aspirations. He at first spurns her advances but with the insistence of his friend Eddie Dupris (Morgan Freeman) and persistence of Maggie, he gives in.

I haven't seen it yet but it sounds really good and I would like to check it out.

I liked this movie, but ultimately it was way too sad, and I didn't come away with a very good feeling. Obviously I know movies aren't supposed to be feel-good all the time, but with a movie like this, I just felt it was so sad I'd rather not have watched it at all.
I really enjoyed it and it touched on a lot of different issues. I like the whole play on love + loss that it does. In many ways, in that regard, it reminded of the book Of Mice and Men.

Freak is a delicate thing.
I would have to agree with you on this.
I found it a touching story overall and the acting+directing was top notch.
The ending just left me sad and feeling like "That's it?!"
I don't like walking away from movies with that feeling.
I give it an 8/10.

I enjoy the sad ending. Too many sports movies are just too Mighty Duck - like where the underdog comes from nowhere and becomes the champ. As severe as Maggie's injury first appeared, I still had a bad feeling that she was going to recover, and kick ass... and she never did. Pretty gutsy move on the writers' part. Swank's performance was incredible, but the most memorable moment for me was one of the last scenes where Dunn injected her. The expression on Swank's face was as if there were so many emotions rolled into one. Amazing stuff
Yeah, to me the ending really made the movie. What would've been the point if she just lived and they lived happily ever after? Would've it still served the same purpose? Would've it really had the same emotion involved?
Yeah it was sad but I don't need to be uplifted with every movie that I see. Personally, I'd much rather see something honest and realistic like this then that. So it was refreshing (although by time I saw it the ending had been revealed everywhere).
