Hurley's weight wont become a big issue yet seeing as they've only been on the island like 9 weeks at most. The stuff with the black smoke and polar bears being the islands security system does not neccesarily have to link with a guy stuck in a quarantine capsule. The thing about lost that keeps you maintained is that there are always more questions than answers and when people try to quantify them you can know for sure they will end up looking stupid for it. We wouldnt all still be watching if ir was that predictable.
At some point the dude us going to have to start losing weight. How can you explain him still being that fat after a while being on an island eating what they are eating and all the walking an shit they do.
I think there may be an explanation for that down the road because the teacher guy (the one that blew himself up with the TNT a few episodes ago) brought attention to that fact. If they weren't going to explain it, then I don't think they would have pointed it out in the show.
I thought this episode was awesome and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. If I was producing the show, I would have done things a little different. I thought the end of last season was a bit of a let down, especially with regards to the hatch storyline. I think it would have been in their best interest to end last season with the scene that started this season. That would have made for a more satisfying end to the season, but also made it a much bigger cliff hanger.

Gotta agree with Ida there, Lost's charm is that you are not just thinking about the last scene but 4 or 5 possible questions an episode has thrown up. For instance the end of the last episode had the guy that Jack had previously met holding a gun to Lock's head but for me Im thinking where's Kate? What's her role in the outcome of that plot, and what on earth is so special about Walt, and where's the guys off the raft? I'm not just hung up on Jack meeting this guy.
Soooooooooooo. Are the "Others" just other plane crash survivors from whenever that have gone mad?
It sure looks that way.
