LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) More than five years removed from her last regular work in primetime, actress Lauren Holly is returning to CBS.
Holly is joining the cast of "NCIS," the "JAG" spinoff which has developed into a solid hit on its on and enters its third season in the fall. She takes over a spot in the cast vacated by Sasha Alexander, although her character, Jenny Shepard, will fill a different role than Alexander's.
Shepard will be the new head of the NCIS unit where Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his team work, according to The Hollywood Reporter. There may also be the possibility of inter-office romance between her and Gibbs.
Harmon and Holly previously worked together on the final season of CBS' "Chicago Hope," which was also Holly's last foray into primetime. She also starred in "Picket Fences" in the early 1990s.
Her movie credits include "Dumb & Dumber," "Beautiful Girls," "What Women Want" and the 2005 Sundance film "The Chumscrubber," which opened in limited release last weekend.

If you haven't seen this show yet I highly recommend it. It's a enthralling watch for a crime drama.
Lauren Holly is a great replacement for Alexander. I think they did a great job in casting on this one.
