I saw a few trailers of this movie and looks very interesting. I like the plot of this and of course the actors as well. I think it will be a fun movie and is one I will go to the movies to watch. I think it could be a bit of a sleeper in the box office, although I expect it to stay at number #3 or 4, but a strong #3 or 4.

I agree. I saw the trailer to this a while back at a movie, and I thought it looked interesting and action-packed..Of course it's Michael Bay so you know you're going to get a bunch of shit blowing up but at the same time the plot may actually have some legs to it.
I was a big fan of the zero plot, all action movies when I was younger, but I need a story now. I need a good story to be told from an action movie or the action isn't going to be enough for me anymore, and this looks like it will deliver in that department.
I'm debating whether I should check this out in the theatre or wait for the rental.

Ok, Michael Bay seems like the world's biggest cry baby in this article....sheesh

Perhaps Michael Bay didn't have a block of wood nearby when he said, prior to THE ISLAND's release last Friday, "I've never had a flop." The film was a major disappointment for DreamWorks with the film only bringing in 10% of the budget ($12.4 million compared to $124 million) in its first weekend.
Industry watchers tried on Sunday night and Monday morning to make sense of why the film flopped by today Bay himself has weighed in. He bluntly labeled the opening "a debacle" and added "it's my worst opening weekend ever." Bay wasn't sure exactly where to point the finger when looking for a reason for the film's failure to catch on but he certainly had a number of ideas. He told the LA Times it could be due to low awareness of the film, a poor marketing campaign, bad posters, the subject matter and even Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson, saying it could very well have been "the lack of stars."
He was also upset about the poster for the film, which he claim made Johansson look like a "porn star." DreamWorks defending the ISLAND marketing saying that it was the largest campaign in the studio's history, which included "five trailers, a screening campaign, three websites and numerous Internet ads." The studio added that Bay approved every poster for the film and chose the final version from over 650 (!!) versions. Bay seemed to have a sinking feeling about THE ISLAND though telling a reporter a few months back, ""The sad thing is, I think we have a really good movie here. But pretty soon, it's going to be too late. There is a point where I have done my job, and they have to do theirs."
Today Bay rationalized the self-proclaimed "debacle" by reminding us (and himself) that Spielberg and Kubrick "all had big flops." Still, he added, "It hurts."

Bay is a moron. Johansson was willing to do a scene topless and he talked her out of it *Cries* But the movie still looks pretty good to me and I will probably check it out on DVD.
