Willy Wonka

So I went to the screening of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this morning. I don't know what to say. The movie is similar to the original w/ new chunks of story and a different demise for Veruca Salt. The ending is also a bit different, extended too.
Overall:
There were a lot of chuckles, but no huge bursts of laughter. Overall the movie left a sour feeling. Wonka went from an eccentric but kind goof to an eccentric bitch who sounds like Dr. Evil in the beginning and makes faces like Raul Duke.
The kids/parents were ok (esp Violet and her mom- who is super MILF,) though I didn't care for Charlie or even really Grandpa Joe. I just didn't care about them and whether they staid poor forever or not.
I just don't really think kids are gonna like this movie all that much, and before you say it's Tim Burton, it's still a child's story.
I don't know how I feel about the oompa loompas yet. They looked ok, the songs were a little gay- one had disco music, and I won't go into the wierdest one that plays when Mike Tv gets his.
I still don't quite understand why this was remade.

I work at a subrun movie theater and we get mailings from the studios about almost every movie that's widely released. I don't go to many of the screenings right now b/c I live about 30 miles away and most are at 10 am so I'd have class or whatnot. Like the Fantastic Four screening was earlier this week but I didn't go- but that's more b/c I could care less about that movie, it looks kinda crap. I hate how new movies special effects look cartoonish.

Please feel free to post any reviews of stuff you see.

I'm sure all of us would like to hear any opinion on upcoming movies.

I'll catch it on DVD, most likely. It looks good, but not something I'd wanna catch in the theater.

Anyone else turned off by the line in the trailer: "Candy doesn't have to have a point, that's why it's candy."

When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.
Luke 21:20-28

Is it faithful to the book?
