As they put it, the project had stalled until Steven Spielberg hatched a new concept, which current screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci developed and pitched to Bay (who worked with them on THE ISLAND). He sparked to the idea and now the two sides are in negotiations with filming scheduled to begin this fall. Bay's deal will be contigent on his approval of the final script, which is due by the end of this month. Pardon me while I go get really excited... Short of the original X-MEN and SPIDER-MAN movies, TRANSFORMERS is probably my most eagerly anticipated adaptation ever. I had more "Transformers" action figures growing up than I knew what to do with. 1986 was my peak year and I had just about every figure on this page. And yes, I'll admit it, I cried when Optimus Prime touch. I've talked to producer Tom DeSanto privately and off-the-record and I know he's as passionate about the TRANSFORMERS movie as you'd want and expect a producer to be. I've been anxiously awaiting word on who DreamWorks would get to direct the film and it looks like a final decision is close. Ain't It Cool News is reporting that Michael Bay will direct TRANSFORMERS following THE ISLAND. According to their scooper, DreamWorks is so pleased with ISLAND they bumped him up to the top of their list of candidates and are looking to give TRANSFORMERS a big push. Also helping the situation is the fact that ISLAND screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are currently rewriting the script. Personally I think Michael Bay is a great choice. Above all the TRANSFORMERS need to look damn cool and that's something Michael Bay can deliver. " Link: http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=7077 | |

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Transformers!!! The Transformers At Bay Source: Variety April 6, 2005 Michael Bay (Armageddon, Pearl Harbor) may come on board to direct a live action movie based on the '80s phenomenon the Transformers, scheduled for a Thanksgiving 2006 release from DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures. Steven Spielberg, who is currently directing War of the Worlds for the two companies, signed on as an executive producer for the project, giving it to writers Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci to get into shape. Having worked with Michael Bay on his upcoming sci-fi film (The Island), they were probably pivotal in getting the director excited about the project and interested in directing it. DreamWorks will work on securing Bay for the project once the first new script is turned in. "Transformers" were a popular Hasbro toy line during the '80s, which spawned a number of cartoons, comic books as well as an animated feature.            |
