Indy 4 & Rush Hour 3 News

For all you Indiana Jones fans out there this is a step in the positive direction. Word on the storyline is Harrison Ford in the "older man" role with him possibly handing off the franchise to someone else. I am waiting for word on the final script before I try to judge if I want to see this film.

As for Rush Hour 3...well it looks like it's either a long ways off or no go at all!

Thoughts?

Variety reports that screenwriter Jeff Nathanson's scripts for Indiana Jones 4 and Rush Hour 3 are moving in opposite directions.

While the trade previously reported that Chris Tucker was expected to sign a $20 million deal which would fast-track New Line's Rush Hour 3, the actor ended up not doing so.

Meanwhile, Nathanson's draft for Indiana Jones 4 has apparently met with the approval of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. But before Paramount can move forward, Harrison Ford still has to sign off on the script, and he hasn't yet read it.

The trade adds that with "Star Wars" off his plate, Lucas recently summoned Nathanson to his Bay Area headquarters, where they went over the draft. The screenwriter also got notes from Spielberg, who brought him into the mix after working with him on Catch Me if You Can and Terminal.

Scheduling Indiana Jones 4 for a 2006 start will be tricky for Spielberg, who next heads to Europe to shoot his untitled drama about the aftermath of the 1972 Munich Olympics for Universal and DreamWorks, and is expected to follow in January with a DreamWorks film about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War, to star Liam Neeson.

That's good news about Indy. I would not of watched it if Harrison Ford was playing the main guy. But he has to be in it or it won't be Indy at all. (see: Son of the Mask)

I do hope Rush Hour 3 happens. 1 and 2 are up there with my favourite action/comedy films, but they're still a long way behind the Beverly Hills Cop Trilogy.

I wish my sex life was like ECW, first you get a One Night Stand followed by 2 months of nostalgic orgasms and then 6 months of constant sucking.

I think the idea of Ford as a mentor is about the only way the movie will work. I've known about them trying to get Indy 4 off the ground for awhile, they've never been able to get a good script til now though. If Spielberg and Lucas are onboard, pretty sure Ford will follow suit.

On the other hand, I don't want this franchise continued after this movie. Ford is a big part of why the series has worked, without him its just another National Treasure. Or Librarian. Or Sahara. Or Young Indiana Jones tv series.

I have read that if Ford doesn't sign on they won't do it.

So if he doesn't like the script the movie will never see the light of day.

But as you said, both Lucas and Speilberg liked it so I doubt he will give it the thumbs down.

Sean Connery has a role in this one too btw.

Argh, I don't know if I like that news. Connery is the man, don't get me wrong, but it feels like milking with them putting him in again. Its all about Indiana, not pops.

How can Indiana have aged? If he drank from the Holy Grail, would that not make him immortal, and therefore the same age as he was during The Last Crusade?

Think Aboot It.

Um, at the end of the film it was said that the Grail's powers don't work if you leave the temple.

That's why the knight was trying to give him the job of watching over the grail and asked him to kill him with his sword.

He ended up leaving the temple at the end of the film so he is normal again.

I thought about it and no lol

I don't think drinking from the Grail prevented him from aging (remember the knight protecting it?), but rather from dying. I always took that as Spielberg's way of telling us that this was the end, but Indiana Jones would always live on.

Good point though. Love it when previous scripts cause dilemmas like this.

EDIT: Ah yeah, the seal. Forgot about that, and I just watched this one like a week ago. I believe you're right, since the two brothers that left the area wound up dying. So disregard my original post.

If that's the case, shouldn't Henry's wounds have reverted, and he continued to die? I've got myself all confused. I'll have to root out the good ol' DVDs.

And I always took the guardians age to be the age when he found the grail. I believed that it was supposed to symbolise the guradian took all his life to find it. He certainly doesn't look 1500+ years old!
