Not surprisingly, given Edgar Allan Poe's life history of drug abuse, madness and general depression, Robert Downey Jr. is Stallone's first pick for the title role. Perhaps ending up dead in a gutter on screen would help Downey continue? to stay clean.

Hard to imagine this as a straight ahead genre pic, but at the same time, any exploration of Poe's drug fueled creative process has got to get pretty intense. Here's hoping they repect the horror in Poe's story.

Am I the only one that thinks this is the role perfectly made for Robert Downey? With Sly's history in directing films here's hoping this one is a keeper and not a stinker like some of his later films.
