Will there be more Star Wars movies?

I absolutely say yes. I know Star Wars nerds are prone to answer no.

But be reasonable, nerds.

Even the new trilogy raked in a gagillion dollars (actually, like somewhere around a billion) and two of them weren't that great of films. Lucas has gone on record of saying the following: I won't do anymore Star Wars movies and TWO: I have another trilogy outlined in my head.

I was watching fake Siskert and real Ebert last night and they totally agreed. Maybe Lucas won't direct them, maybe it won't be another twenty years, but there will be more Star Wars movies somewhere down the line. You can count on it.

Star Wars is the rise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker, no more. TV shows, yeah. Movies, no.

And since Lucas owns the rights to the films, there's no one who would be able to make another set of films. 20th Century Fox has no say because they merely distribute the films, not fund them.

I think there will be new Star Wars movies. I would love to see a new trilogy set thosands of years in the past when the Jedi and the Sith were fighting. Fans wouldn't need to worry about the quality since it seems that most people thing that ROTS is the best Star Wars film. Lucas may not want to do more right now but I have a feeling that in a few years he will get an itching to go back and make more.

Fox doesn't have the rights, but they do have some pull. It's not like they can't annoy the shit out of Lucas for the rest of his life.

Ebert said that it's likely he would just write it and let someone else do it.

You also have to consider that Lucas is saying there will be no more after just finishing this one. He's probably exhausted, earlier on there was a lot of criticism, so what else is he going to say about it? I think given quite a few years, 15-20, he'll at least reconsider the whole thing.

And if he has an outline for more than why wouldn't he? It's a billion dollars (probably much, much more) in the bag...even if it all sucks.

I doubt there will be more original movies but I think the 6 in existence will be re-released in different versions forever.

Plus the tv shows are likely to be huge.

Not to mention the computer games, books, and stories in the future.

Do we really need more movies in this series?? I would think even die hard fans want to cover new ground in terms of storytelling.

If they found an interesting way to do it and brought interest into new characters I am all for it. But revisiting Anakin or Luke and Leia is not necessary.

These movies should stand as their story.

Lucas already has an idea outlined for more. So obviously he does have some idea to keep it going. I have no idea if it's with the same characters or not but that's what has been said.

Lucas has made so much money off of this movie and Lucas isn't beyond grabbing a few more golden coins for his pockets. I think people need to remember that.

The force is strong, financially speaking.

Yeah but recently he said that he feels that the story after Return of the Jedi was covered in the books that have came out in the years since.

I dunno anything is possible but my gut tells me no.

I thought about it and that's what I think.

Ummm...not exactly. He knew the beginning somewhat (but most of what was originally outlined changed or was only touched on a little bit), knew the middle, but the third trilogy...not so much. All he said back in 83 was that if it were made it would be about Luke restarting the Jedi order and the building of the New Republic.

And, as we all know Mark Hamill is in his fourties as is Carrie Fisher, and Ford is 60. It ain't happening. No one would stand that anyone but these three play their characters (and if it took place right after Jedi as it should, then these three wouldn't be able to convincingly play their roles).

Not to mention that Ford has a general distaste for acting in the Star Wars films and wouldn't really want to do new films if they were to be made.

The fact that he's gone on record and said that he's had an idea for another trilogy and it's outlined in his head says a lot to me. It says that there's a very good possibility that somewhere down the road he'll go for it.

I think it's easy for him to say no to it now because he's just created this one. It will also make it a lot more exciting for when the next one does come out if he pretends that he isn't working on one.

Think about it. Twenty years from now, an easy billion dollars at least (if the movie sinks or swims), and the whole thing all ready outlined in his head? How can anyone really think 'no way' would be it?
