I'd have no problem with them revisiting the criminals from the last two, and the fact they're starting off with Scarecrow I think is original and daring...something to be commended. I like TLJ as well, but aside from the continuity problem with the Harvey Dent/Two Face character (Billy Dee Williams played him first, then TLJ? Must have been some strong acid he got hit with for that kind of change heh) was there was no buildup, no background save for a weak flashback. I'm all for exposition if its done in a way thats not intrusive to pace or condescending to my intelligence, and I think a healthy dose of it was needed for that character.
If you do a google search for the Priemere magazine article with Goyer you can read the full interview I think. I got it from a film site I frequent.

Agreed, there is a lot of unexplored ground with the Harvey Dent character that they never touched but briefly. He was a trusted confidant of Batman and he betrayed that trust. Plus the morality tale of being a lawyer and living by the law, then becoming something else and living your life by chance and the flip of a coin.

I always found that character fascinating.

Completely agree. Something like that is out of Shumacher's scope anyway....he was too busy making sure the nipples on the batsuit were symmetrical. Oh yeah, and finding out how much neon he could fit onscreen without blowing up the cameras.

(shudder)

Talk about someone that didn't get it...it almost seemed like the last two Batman movies were from a different universe as well.

I think that's why Val Kilmer quickly exited stage left after his one and only turn in Batman Forever. But I have heard he is a jerk as well so I digress.

I think Shumaker was going for something along the lines of the 60's tv show.

I mean having Clooney pull out a "Bat Credit Card" and saying "Never leave home without it"

C'mon!! :thumbsd:

Yeah, Shumacher is all about the camp. Then there was the "chicks dig the car" line...bleh. I thought Kilmer was a terrible choice for the part, but I actually liked George Clooney. Not as much as Keaton, but I thought he was servicable. Its really a shame those movies turned out so poorly because at times I thought Jim Carrey was brilliant as the riddler...other times, not so much. But with competent directing (and a better script, methinks) he could have turned in quite a performance.

I agree he was a good choice. From what I heard the original script was good and they trimmed it down so much and turned it campy that it was utter crap by the time they were done.

I guess making t-shirts and action figures for kids was more appealing to Shumaker than actually making a decent superhero film that everyone could enjoy.

I'm thinking more along the lines of bringing his fetishes to life as being the priority for him. I mean seriously...the neon? The friction between Wayne and Grayson that was far more overdone than it should be (and really, didn't it seem like sexual tension between them? BLECH!) and killed the believability of the characters was horrible too.

And of course, the nipples. On the Batsuit. Go away, Joel Schumacher. You killed Batman, and now you've killed the Phantom of the Opera.

(not trying to go too far offtopic heh, but I was all excited they were doing a film version of it until I heard Schumacher was helming it)
