The following is a spoiler for the return episode of Family Guy. Some brief notes are below, but HeadlinePlanet's review will not be up for a while.
The episode starts off with one of Family Guy's best jokes of all-time, a shot at the many shows that have failed on FOX. This isn't for all people, but those who appreciated the less slapstick side of the show will love the opening.
From there, it becomes one of the more story/action-based episodes, with two different storylines. One features Lois and Peter going on a second honeymoon to bring the spark back to their marriage. During sex with Peter, Lois discovers that she fantasizes about men like George Clooney and Mel Gibson and is no longer turned on by Peter. She's going through a "phase where she's only attracted to handsome men." In preparation for the trip, Lois and Peter leave Brian in charge of the kids, but it becomes blatantly clear that Brian is not capable of managing Chris and Meg. Thus, Stewie helps Brian and the two act as a mock "married" couple, with MacFarlane poking fun at things like spanking and "did you turn the stove off?"
On the way to Cape Cod for the second honeymoon, Peter decides to read a comic book about hamburgers while driving. This is one of the most annoying and least funny scenes in Family Guy history and it rather predictably leads to Peter running off the road and crashing into a tree. He and Lois have to spend the night in a sleazy hotel fresh with a hooker who "only detects people when they move." Their second honeymoon is already off to a bad start.
Meanwhile, Brian finds out that Lois signed up to chaperone Chris' school dance, so he and Stewie take on the task. While at the dance, we meet a familiar old face (in a joke that's extremely stale) as well as witness the return of Jake Tucker (upside-down face). In the bathroom, Chris is trying to fit in with Tucker and some of the other kids and attempts to sip some vodka. However, he's caught in the act and gets in serious trouble. After punishing Chris on the road, Brian and Stewie vow to confront Jake's father, Tom Tucker, about the vodka situation.
While watching TV, Lois and Peter witness the opening of a new hotel that doesn't allow Asians inside. Due to such racial discrimination, Peter views it as a high-class place and decides the hotel is the right spot to reignite his marriage. After discovering that Mel Gibson has a private suite that he hardly uses, Peter disguises himself as Mel Gibson and gets access to the room. He and Lois have sex again, yet Lois is still not into Peter. At this point, the two stumble into Mel Gibson's private viewing studio and witness the trailer for "The Passion of the Christ 2: Crucify This," starring Jim Caviziel and Chris Tucker. Peter is not at all happy about the prospect of Mel Gibson wasting two hours of people's lives with more Jesus mumbo-jumbo, so he steals the film and tries to exit the hotel. But, just as he's on his way out, Mel Gibson's "employees" - two priests - confront Peter and Lois and engage in a chase. Eventually, Lois is taken back to Mel Gibson's headquarters on top of Mount Rushmore. Gibson promises to return Lois unharmed if Peter returns the film.
Back in Quahog, Stewie and Brian meet with Tom Tucker. It becomes clear that he's not willing to do anything to alleviate the situation, so out of revenge, Brian and Stewie plant drugs in Jake Tucker's locker. We learn by the end of the episode that Jake got busted.
Peter attempts to defraud Gibson and crew by sticking dog feces in the case that held the film, before pulling Lois and making a run for it. Mel hunts the duo down with a gun, but because Christians don't believe in gravity, he ends up running off Mount Rushmore to his ultimate demise. Due to Peter's bravery, Lois is once again attracted to her husband and the episode ends on a fairly positive note.
During the episode, a few familiar faces return, including Ollie from the "BlackU Weather Forecast." There appears to be a new technology for landscape scenes, but I can confirm via Seth MacFarlane personally that the show still generally relies on the same software and hand animation.
