Dark Phoenix set for Xmen 3

Source: Variety by: Mike Sampson

"Famke Janssen has officially signed on to star in X-MEN 3 confirming the rumors that the Phoenix character will indeed be a part of this film. It's unclear how large a role Janssen and Phoenix will have in the film - rumors have ranged from her character being the lead villain to having a mere minor role. Personally I always felt the Dark Phoenix saga (though to a lesser extent its follow-up "From the Ashes") is of the best storylines in X-Men history and would certainly make for a intriguing movie premise. But how they plan to explain the absense of Cyclops - as actor James Marsden is off filming SUPERMAN with Bryan Singer - remains to be seen. Janssen and Hugh Jackman are the only leads confirmed to return though deals for Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan are expected to be imminent. Expect more announcements on the film as Fox and director Matthew Vaughn plan to get filming underway this summer in Vancouver. The studio has already set aside a release date of May 26, 2006."

I would think Phoenix would be the main villain...it just makes sense. Honestly, I think the X-Men series should be like James Bond, how they just keep making new films every two years or so. They have enough villains and characters that they've yet to introduce, like Juggernaut, Apocalypse, Gambit, Cable, Bishop, etc. I hope they just keep churning them out.

Plus it would be cool to see some of the "students" from the first two movies, like Iceman, Shadowcat, and Colossus, grow up and become real X-Men.

As for explaining Cyclops' absence, thats really not that hard...The love of his life died and he went soul-searching

No Bryan Singer directed the first two. But he has moved on to WB to direct "Superman Returns". I believe this pissed Fox off so they signed a new director recently. Vaughn has directed a new movie called "Layer Cake". He is quite talented, but it remains to be seen if he will make a good replacement director.

The new characters they are in discussion to bring into the franchise are Archangel, Beast, and Gambit. These three were confirmed to be in the script a few weeks ago.

In addition there is a rumor going around that the main villian will be the guy who created the Sentinels. The giant robots who are programmed to kill mutants. I believe his name was Bolivar Trask.

If anyone wants links I will search for it and provide.

Yes...the gentleman who did the voice for Beast was in the first X-Men movie in a cameo.

When Rogue is dropped off at the bar where Wolverine is fighting he is the truck driver who has two lines I believe....

"I thought you were going to take me as far as Laughlin City?"

"This is Laughlin City"

I hope this new director, doesn't destroy the series, like Joel Shumaker destroyed The Batman Series.
I'm happy Gambit is in this one (he is afterall, the greatest Poker Player lol).
