It's not the same girl. This one's Japanese, and the plot differs from the Ring greatly.

This looks great. Hopefully I can catch it this weekend. I'm always up for a horror flick!
When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.

She looks similar because Ringu and Ju-On were made by the same guy and have some similar characters. I have seen Ju-On and it was good. But The Grudge looks like complete garbage. Just like the Ring was a disgrace to Ringu. I wish Americans would stop butchering good foreign films with awful hollywood garbage.

I thought it was very well done, myself. My cousin and I were genuinely creeped out. Took a while to realize what was going on, but still well done.

I personally thought it was better than The Ring remake.

Say what?? I thought it awful...THe Ring was much better...Every so called spook scene in this movie involved some idiot hearing a noise, and then going to investigate..Like the attic! WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU GOIN IN THE ATTIC FOR!!! I mean come on! And how many times has the "dead chick with long black hair" stuff been done...She jumps out---then fade to black...I'm sitting there like what?? is that it?? Just a bad bad movie.
It's here...And it owns me...It will own you too.

It's a horror movie. If she didn't go up to the attic, then the plot wouldn't move forward. ;)

Possible Spoilers

I saw this movie and it did actually scare me. Moreso the sudden, loud noises (I'm pretty jumpy as it is). The creaking/croaking noise the chick ghost made was pretty annoying. I'll admit, it gave me a nightmare and I woke up at 5 in the morning clinging to my bf.

However, that being said, I did think that overall it was not a great movie. There were a lot of "oops"es in the plot or parts that just flat out didn't make sense (ie. did the cat possess the little boy and that's why he meowed/screeched? - left unexplained in the movie ... OR, if the whole point of the story is that those who die in rage carry on the curse, then why wasn't the guy who was the most filled with rage not do the majority of the killings? - that didn't make sense).

I can't wait 'til I can hate you tonight."

Yes, the boy was possessed by the cat.

This is a remake of a Japanese horror movie, actually directed by the man who made the original in order to keep it from being "Americanized." The big thing for Japanese cinema is for it to not give all the answers and for the audience to fill in the blanks themselves.

Takashi Shimizu couldn't make it Japanese. An American cast, mostly American crew, screenplay edited by an American and stuff that is suitable in Japanese cinema but not here = AMERICANIZED even though Takashi Shimizu still directed. From what I have heard the ending was majorly butchered to get the PG-13 rating. And anybody who hasn't seen Ju-On probably won't figure out the ending. Also SMG is good eye candy but like a lot of younger actors/actresses right now she isn't that great at acting. And the movie is supposed to be set in Tokyo and yet most of the main characters are white. That makes less sense than the plot.
