Just got back from seeing this and I have to say it is the worst film I've seen all year.

My peeves with the film are :

M.N.S instead of writing a suspensful movie with a good ending wrote a film with great suspense and an absolute bull shit ending which was only there because never in a million years would anyone see it coming.

His films now are simply designed to hookwonk the viewer but the viewer nows some swerve is coming and I for one didn;t care it. They should have ended it like Signs which had no bombshell twist.

Adrien Brody wasn't on screen enough

I thought the story dragged very badly and had some whopping holes in it.

Really it was the ending which ruined the film for me and I really wanted to like this film.

I was gonna catch this at the flicks, but after hearing that it would be better for me to make up my own ending, I decided to wait til video.

When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.

My boss told me to save my money. He said he wanted to shoot himself because it sucked so bad.

I was dragged into this movie after reading awful reviews, and I expected it to be a complete waste of time. To my surprise, it was only mostly a waste of time.

Seriously, once you get past the BRUTAL script (just terribly horrendously poorly-written) and the obvious "twist" ending, there is actually a pretty friggin' cool plot hidden in there. I wish I had the idea to make that movie, or at least work with that premise, because it is clever. It's also a good-looking movie, like the cinematography is fun to watch.

Just don't go in expecting a movie that's gonna blow you away, and boggle your mind.

I saw it a while ago and thought it was ok. It was no where near as scary as the trailers lead us to believe; but I guess a PG-13 rating should tell ya something. I liked the story behind it, but it had a way of getting boring at times.

Ebert & Ropert gave it Thumb Down/ Thumb Up, and they argued over how good/bad it was, depending on who was talking at the time.

I wasnt all too impressed with the Village.

Im all for a slow burning film.. as long as it pays off at the end (ala Usual Suspects). But the village just didnt deliver. Maybe I had too high expectations after Sixth Sense and Unbreakable.. I also bought into the hype. I left the film with no great memories.. only disappointment.

I'm obviously in the minority here but I thought the Village was great. I had never heard of Bryce Dallas Howard before seeing this but I can't wait to see what she's going to do next as I thought she was amazing. Phoenix did his usual solid brooding performance but the movie really was on Howard's shoulders and I felt she pulled it off. The scene that really showed her greatness in this film was after they found blood on Noah's hands and she goes off looking for Lucious, holding out her hand waiting for him to grab it... sad stuff that was.

Yeah I do agree that Bryce Dallas Howard or whatever her name is, played her part very well, and without her, the film would have been absolute shite in my opinion.
