Favourite Director?

Im a fan of a few directors for various reasons.. here are a few of my favourites.

Martin Scorcese -
Mainly because of his narrative approach to his movies, always giving you plenty of information and dialogue, which is voiced over into uninteresting scenes.. I find this is great because we get the background on things in a short space of time and therefore reducing the need for character building at the beginning of the movie. (i.e. Instead of having half an hour dedicated to building someone up as a psycho.. Scorcese does it in 5 seconds by having Joe Pesci saying " That man is a fucking psycho!" lol and im not one to argue with Pesci

Lucio Fulci & Dario Argento
Masters of exploitation and over the top gore scenes. All of their films were the templates for horror movies today.

Without a doubt Speilberg. Hes just done so many masterpieces which will forever be classics.

Saving Private Ryan for the first 30 mins is the closest anyone has ever come to portraying war on film.

E.T. = class no doubt

Jurassic Park was one of the biggest films of all time until Harry Potter and the Matrix came along

the list is endless and he keeps coming out with solid films. The Terminal looks great too.

Gotta go with Spielberg. While not a fan of his latest films (though The Terminal looks pretty good), his classics are just that---classics. He really is a brilliant visionary.

That goes for Kubrick too.

When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.

I always found many of Spielberg's films to be really "Hollywoodized," in that they all follow the same sort of forumla, and end with the exact same sentiment.

I hate to be like everyone else out there, but Tarantino fascinates me.

I say this no trying to diss anyon who likes him, but I hate Tarrantino films. Each to own I guess, I just can't get into the films at all, I tried Kill Bill the other day and I just couldn;t watch it. Same goes for Pulp Fiction.

RDogs is watchable but I'm just no a fan. Jackie Brown I've not seen.

Another Director who I quite like is Oliver Stone, Platoon and Any Given Sunday are two of my favourite films. Born on the Fourth of July is good too. Micheal Mann is producing some good stuff at the moment too with Ali and the forthcoming surefire hit with Tom Cruise playing a baddie, Collateral.

David Fincher, the guy who did Seven and Fight Club is really good

Ever since I saw Natural Born Killers, i cant stand Oliver Stone. that movie was so overdirected its not even funny. i loved Any Given Sunday, however. The speech that Al Pacino makes in the locker room at the end is absolutely incredible

I'm not a big fan of Kubrick's. His films are great when viewed as a piece of "art"...but as movies, they tend to lack some of the qualities that make a movie good, such as drama and an intriguing plot. 2001 A Space Odyssey is a prime example of this. Its visually stunning, but is compltely lacking in plot and character development. And Eyes Wide Shut was possibly the most boring movie ive ever seen

I love Full metal Jacket, however. The drill sergeant is probably in my top 5 movie characters of all time.

With the exception of Jackie Brown, I've liked all the Tarantino movies. i think he's a little full of himself, though

I have this argument all the time over Kubrick, I think thats sums up my feelings towards him. Full Metal Jacket is my favourite film by him but I think that even that films goes downhill after they leave the training camp and go to Vietnam. After the training camp it seems as though he couldn't be bothered and lost all creativity.

His Hong Kong or US stuff? A lot of arty people really hate Woos US films but I think on thw whole there great, Face Off was amazing and I though Windtalkers was great too, he's gonna direct the Rock in Spyhunter which could be very, very good and for anyone who cares hes signed on to direct Rainbow Six based on the Tom Clancy novel.
