Hugh Jackman The cuddly folks over the IESB recently got Hugh Jackman to open up about the status of his upcoming WOLVERINE spin-off. He mentioned:

"We just now signed off on the [Wolverine] script. If you know the history of the X-Men movies, this is a revolution for us. We're a year away from shooting the film and we have the script, and by the way it's unbelievable. It's the David Benioff script. He's a huge fan. You guys know Benioff, one of the hardest working writers in town. He was beating down our door to write this movie. It was like the most amazing thing. So we have this fantastic script and I have a couple movies coming up in the next month and I might be able to tell you who the director is by then. We are in serious talks right now."

He also expressed interest in coming back for a cameo should a fourth, possibly younger-skewing, X-MEN film materialize. We'll soon be seeing Jackman in a magician's battle to the death with Christian Bale in THE PRESTIGE.

Extra Tidbit: According to the IMDB, Ken Watanabe is rumored to be playing Kenuichio Harada/Silver Samurai in the film.
This should cover Wolverine's history as a Samurai and his time in Japan.

Altogether it looks to be an awesome movie.

Is this going to have Omega RED in it? I thought I'd read somewhere that he was going to be the main villain. Although I'd be happy with Silver Samurai, if Ken Watanabe were to play him. Watanabe's an awesome actor.

I would really be interested in the Wolverine film - I couldn't think of a better actor to portray him than Hugh. I'll be there to see this opening night.

Although, the fact that he would "make a cameo in the fourth should it happen" is the first mention I've heard of a possible fourth. Everything else I heard specifically said the trilogy ends the films. However, if they continued it I would be estatic!!!

Omega Red and Lady Deathstrike are said to have brief cameos while Silver Samurai and the Yakuza would be the main villians.

Jayman there's a rumor they're considering a fourth movie with the "Students of Xavier" sort of thing with all the kids and maybe Storm and Wolvie. It hasn't been confirmed yet though and they are doing the Wolverine and Magneto solo films first.

I doubt if they go forward with a fourth one.

It's said to center around Logan traveling to Japan and busting up the drug trade there with flashbacks to his early training with the Samurai.

Kelly Hu (Lady Deathstrike) said she wants to be in it so I hope they sign her. She was great in X2.
