After its one month climb to the top of the box office, culminating in its first weekend at #1 with $22 million, Oren Peli's Paranormal Activity is clearly a box office phenomenon, a point driven home by the subsequent failure of Saw VI to replicate the success of the previous five installments of the successful horror franchise. The Lionsgate mainstay opened in second place this weekend with $14.8 million, less than half the opening of the previous four movies.
Not surprisingly, the L.A. Times is now reporting that Paramount already owns the worldwide rights to make a sequel to the surprise hit, and the company's chairman Brad Grey tells them that they're "looking to see if that makes some sense."
The article, which you can read here, is a good recap of the story so far, as well as talking about the pros and cons of making a sequel to the movie that cost less than $15,000 to make and less than $11 million paid by Paramount for acquisition and marketing. So far, the movie has grossed $62.5 million and the L.A. Times claims it's on its way to $100 million.
Wow not a surprise. Already talking about a sequel. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I haven't seen the movie yet, I know people that have though and according to them, the ending is fucking awesome, left them with questions and should be left alone. Paramount will end up milking this for all it's worth with a bunch of shitty sequels that will hurt the reputation of the original movie.

For fucks sake, the whole reason people should be flocking to see this is because it's a giant "Fuck you" to the studios that thinks you need tons of money and either a remake/sequel to make a successful horror movie. Doing sequels would make it exactly what it strives not to be like.

I agree with the no part that Jim brought up. Although to add my own, it wasn't that impressive for a sequel anyway. Everyone I have known that has seen it (minus the forums) have hated it.

Eh, it's not for everyone. Most people needs nonstop action in order not to be bored.

It wasn't that for me. All this was to me is Blair Witch in suburbia.
One example of them taking the element of scare out was the baby powder on the floor. You knew what was coming. I don't think I jumped once at anything that was done. Everything built up to a letdown.

It wasn't supposed to be over the top shocks. It was supposed to come off as very real. To do anything over the top would ruin the entire goal.

If it wasn't supposed to be that way....that's sure as hell the way they were marketing it. I haven't seen the movie, but the previews I saw concentrating on showing the moviegoers in the dark theatre just jumping out of their seats and screaming.
If it wasn't for me reading up on it, I wouldn't really understand the basic point of the movie as it wasn't well described in the previews. (Outside of it obviously having "Paranormal activity" in it).
