If it wasn't supposed to be that way....that's sure as hell the way they were marketing it. I haven't seen the movie, but the previews I saw concentrating on showing the moviegoers in the dark theatre just jumping out of their seats and screaming.
But they were always putting over how real it was. The movie was supposed to be so scary because it was supposed to be "Real"

If they make a sequel it will ruin the credibility of the first one. It is just like what Saw did. They made a kick ass first movie on a small budget and it was a huge success. Obviously Saw had a larger budget than Paranormal, but if they would of left Saw just as an original piece it would have been a horror classic. But instead they've made 6 and watered it down so much that no one wants to see that many movies to get to the point of the entire series. Leave Paranormal as it is. The second one won't be anywhere near as good.

To some people it might not. Blair Witch 2>Blair Witch. Although just be sheer word of mouth and not budget Paranormal did good, and nobody can knock that. If they do make a sequel it will be interesting on how they do it, and how big of a budget they give it. Even as much as I didn't care for it, I do feel that it will be better if they leave it alone.
I wouldn't be surprised if the sequel was similar to Saw II or Blair Witch 2, in the basic sense of going away from the simplistic formula that worked so well in the 1st film.

Weren't the morals thrown out the window when Spielberg got a hold of it and changed the ending? To me that's a sell out in itself. To sell the movie to him, and then let him change the ending to me is kind of lame. Haven't seen it, so I'm not by any means judging it. Just judging the fact that they sold it to someone like Spielberg. Don't get me wrong either I love his work, but he's as mainstream as they get.

I believe they just sold it to him because he was one of the people wanting to distribute it. Or am I wrong? I haven't read any stories on what exactly happened but I've only heard they finished the film and couldn't find a distributor. Spielberg saw it, loved it, and suggested a new ending. They agreed with the new ending and that is what was released in theaters. Please do correct me if I am wrong, I'm just going by what I've heard.

Nah I'm not doubting that. But once it got sold to a huge distributor it's not shocking that they'll milk it for all they can.

When you invest time and energy into making a movie, you want people to see it. From the two main endings, they proved to be smart by heeding Spielberg's advice proved to be a good idea since it was the stronger ending. I don't think it's selling out when you just want your movie to be seen by people and you change the ending (To a better one, might I add). To my knowledge, Spielberg didn't have anything to do with coming up with the new ending.

According to Wiki which could be complete bullshit.
Quote:
The ending attached to the theatrical version of the film was suggested by Steven Spielberg.[5] Evidently, Spielberg has reported that when he was viewing a screening of the film in his home, the door beside him shut closed. He believes that it was a paranormal encounter.[citation needed] The ending currently being seen in theaters for the limited screenings does not match endings previously seen in earlier screenings at Screamfest and the Burbank screening.
