Chevy Chase's Vacation Turned Over To The Next Generation
Quote:
New Line Cinema is working on a sequel to the 1983 comedic masterpiece National Lampoon’s Vacation. Before you roll your eyes and click to something else, hear me out. This is nothing like the abortive 1997 sequel Vegas Vacation or for that matter the far superior 1989 sequel Christmas Vacation. Instead it’s more of a Vacation: The Next Generation.
THR says the film will focus on Clark Griswold’s son Rusty, now all grown up and with a family of his own. Rusty, following in his father’s stumbling footsteps, attempts a family road trip vacation of his own.
There’s no script yet, the studio is meeting with writers, but they’re locked in on that as the film’s premise. The idea is to have both Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo appear in the film as grandparents and they’d reference the previous movies, to maintain a consistent continuity. If it works, I look forward to seeing a sequel in which Rusty’s attempts his own Christmas Vacation, with Chevy Chase as one of the visiting (and mostly annoying) grandparents and Randy Quaid as the still unemployed Second Cousin Eddie.
If you’re worried that this will be another horrible National Lampoon cash-in, fear not, they’re not involved. Once a symbol of sure fire comedy, the National Lampoon brand has fallen into disrepair and is usually, these days, slapped on horrible direct-to-dvd college comedies. New Line is having none of it and instead insists they want something that’s up to snuff, maybe in the vein of Little Miss Sunshine or hey, for that matter, how about just shooting for the quality of the original Vacation.

I didn't mind any vacation movie including Vegas Vacation to be honest. They were all great, obviously the last one was a little hit or miss, but still I loved it.
I'm not feeling this idea though, sounded like the Mask, Dumb & Dumber, & Ace Ventura sequels.

Re: Chevy Chase's Vacation Turned Over To The Next Generation
I liked the original "Vacation" movie and the Vegas Vacation sequel (mostly for Audrey *wink*). I think they were pretty funny and had some decent, memorable lines along the way. Christmas Vacation was decent, and had it's moments. But, the least mentioned European Vacation should've been burned when the script was handed out.
I'd be interested to see this sequel, with Rusty leading the way. If Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo do appear as the grandparents, I wonder if they'll bring back Anthony Michael Hall to play Rusty, and the woman who played the original Audrey.

I love the Vacation movies, although I've not seen Vegas. It's the little subtleties of the films that I like. For instance, at the start of Vacation, it's the way he still tries to open his car door, despite it being crushed, or in European Vacation, where he climbs into his car, and just looks confused and says "Where's the wheel?"

Eh, not a fan of the idea. I'd almost rather see another sequel. Because more than anything else, it was Chevy Chase that made those movies work. Yeah, Beverly D'Angelo and decent scripts, but take out Clark Griswold and you don't have a franchise.
Finding someone to adqueately replace Chase is going to be tough.

Re: Chevy Chase's Vacation Turned Over To The Next Generation
I have enjoyed every "Vacation" movie Chevy Chase and co. has been in, and yes that includes Vegas Vacation. He is just so classic and priceless as the dimwitted dad, Clark. I watch Christmas Vacation around the holidays at least twice every year..I absolutely love it.
That said, I'd probably give this one a watch if they kept it on the same plane as the originals. Having Chase and D'Angelo still in it as the grandparents would make me happy, because let's face it: by this point they are much too old to be considered as still having teenage kids. Time has moved, and sadly enough the Clark Griswold we all knew is a bit too old to be taking his family on vacations anymore.

I loved all of the Vacation movies except I didn't care for European Vacation. imo bringing Chase back as a granddad taking his grandchildren on a mishap of a road trip would be better than finding someone else to try and make the audience laugh. Chase made that franchise.

I liked the idea. I'm a fan of the entire series exept for European vacation. Hopefully they'll take their time on it and not make it a clusterfuck of stupid like Christmas vacation 2.

I seem to be in the minority here in that I didnt mind European Vacation. I have the box set now, but used to watch them all over and over again when i was a kid with my brother.
Id definately give this a go, but wouldnt hold up much hope for it being as great as the originals. If Chevy Chase is in it, he needs to have quite a big part, not just one scene otherwise its just not gonna be the same.

I really liked European Vacation. Think it's harder for American's to really like it though lol.
