With the release of the reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street
fast approaching, Daniel Farrands brings us his latest exposition focusing on the guy who’s kept millions awake at night, Freddy Krueger. Farrands teamed up with Dread Central’s Andrew Kasch to put together Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, a feature-length documentary
about the iconic horror movie franchise.
Farrands knows what he’s doing when it comes to revisiting the best in slasher series. One of his first directorial gigs was actually a mockumentary about Jason Voorhees called The Crystal Lake Massacres Revisited. The piece was separated into three parts and included on the new deluxe edition DVDs of Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter, Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning and Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. He is also responsible for the well-received documentary His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th.
Never Sleep Again will be similar to His Name Was Jason. The documentary clocks in at 90 minutes and will be narrated by ANOES veteran Heather Langenkamp. The two-disc DVD will also include I Am Nancy, a documentary written, produced and directed by Langenkamp as well as over four hours of bonus material. According to the press release from Dread Central, Never Sleep Again will be released in the spring of 2010, which I expect means it’ll coincide with the release of the new film starring Jackie Earl Haley as Krueger on April 30th, 2010.
Lastly, an interesting tidbit mentioned on Slash Film; Never Sleep Again was produced by a company called 1428 Films
. The address of the house that Nancy used to take down Krueger in the first film? 1428 North Genesee Avenue in Los Angeles, California. Kind of cool, right?

Really looking forward to this.

After Wes Craven stopped having any input it stopped interesting me. Because the concept of Freddy is fantastic but they turned Freddy into a joke and bent the rules and concepts that were previously written. But this will be more interesting than the Friday the 13th one, or so I can assume.

I never got around to buying the re-release of the first on DVD. However, so far there's been very little information on the series, particularly the sequels. Even with the box set having a lot of fun rare gems, there was very little true info. So the release of this should be pretty good.
Although I hate the idea of buying the same movies on DVD a few times, I'd love for re-releases of the sequels with more bonus features. Very few of the movies actually had commentaries attached to them.
