Review: I caught this movie again on tv the other night. I will never deny I'm a Will Ferrell mark, but this movie really was fun for me to watch. The chemistry between Will & and John C Reilly is greatness, and I really look forward to any movie they are both in. Even with a theme like Nascar which I have no real interest in they made me really get into it. Sacha was also pretty good as a french guy in this movie. The plot was silly, but what else is new for these guys.

Overall, if you haven't seen this movie yet you really need to catch it on cable, or rent it. It will be worth it. A lot of great laughs, and really enjoyable.

Repo: The Genetic Opera

I thought I could add another review for this movie. Off the bat I'm not a big fan of musicals unless the music is catchy. This movie had a very compelling plot but the music was far from catchy and fair at best. Usually if I turn on a musical I'm stuck singing the songs for the next couple of days. I can only remember one song in this movie, but the story was very interesting. The fact that Bill Moseley is in this movie was my main reason for seeing it. Although you also have the amazing acting of Paris Hilton as well. Overall the story is very interesting, read Nexus' review for the main plot, but the musical aspect of it failed. The ending scene was by far my favorite and I wouldn't be disappointed if they did something like this again.

Role Models

Going into the movie I wasn't suspecting much. You start out with Wheeler (Sean William Scott) and Danny Donahue (Paul Rudd) working for an energy drink company. They got to schools and encourage kids to stay off drugs and drink their energy drink. In term, Danny Donahue seems to be going through a hard time, not enjoying the majority of his life. When his girlfriend, Beth (Elizabeth Banks) breaks up with him he goes on a rampage at the last school he has to visit and get himself and Wheeler in a great deal of trouble. Their punishment is to spend 150 hours in a program called Sturdy Wings. Danny gets assigned the nerd from Superbad who is still a nerd in this movie while Wheeler gets assigned a black kid who seems to be all to street smart. Given the plot isn't anything interesting and Sean William Scott still plays the same character in every movie it was surprisingly good. The humor between the kids and the situations they get into are quite diverse. The ending is amazingly cheesy but it was a decent movie with a decent amount of laughs. Definitely better than my first take on the movie. I wouldn't rush out to rent it by any means, but if you see it and have nothing else to get I think the majority of people will be pleasantly surprised.

Re: Movie Ratings [See a Movie, Give a Rating]

Gran Tarino

Clint Eastwood is a war veteran whos wife has just passed away. Thanks to his service in the military he wasnt around for his children growing up, though he tried to be a part of their life. A new Hmong family has moved right beside Eastwood, and right off the bat he dislikes them. However, as he learns about a problem the family is having with a gang, he sets out to mentor the families shy teenage son Thao, who the gang is trying to recruit. Finally realizing that Thao's family will never be able to live a normal life with the gang, Eastwood sets out to get rid of the gang once and for all. I really enjoyed the movie, it started out with prejudice and racism, and ended with understanding. The film was filled with emotion and an understanding of each character and their personality. The film isnt overly violent, though it has a very violent undertone. There isnt much blood, but there is a lot of racism, and some parts that are psychologically disturbing. This isnt a film for anyone under 16, but it is a must see film for sure 10/10

Friday the 13th [2009]

I saw this movie twice. In the movie they basically run through the first Friday the 13th and the second Friday the 13th. Which was a very enjoyable part of the movie, they didn't waste any time and basically got right down to the killing. It also gave people an overview if they never saw Friday the 13th before. I thought they did a good job with the look of the movie, Jason looked more intense then ever. But I didn't really care much for the characters. I don't think you got enough time to know them, you had the jack ass that you couldn't wait until he died and then the comic relief but that was about it. I did enjoy the various ways they died though, I thought some of those scenes were the best. But overall it didn't add much to the Friday the 13th movie. It was nothing we haven't seen already. They gave very little back story on Jason and they gave us very little anything. It's a good flick to watch if you want to see the intense murder scenes, but that is about it. Hell the second batch of teenagers, or third depending when you count, doesn't even know his name is Jason. They just keep wailing about how there is a "killer" out there.

Let's just call this Marketh Reviews Tarantino
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Reservoir Dogs - Great story, great acting, great atmosphere. It's not as violent as people think, seeing as more of it is offscreen than you notice. The dialogue is realistic, yet hilarious and gritty, yet most lines are able to tell us more about the characters. Michael Madsen and Steve Buscemi stand out and shine above the others as the cool psychopath, Mr Blonde and obnoxious Mr Pink. 9/10

Pulp Fiction - I'm sure you've all heard the praise for it. 10/10

Jackie Brown - Seems more like a normal movie than Tarantino's other films, but still has his spark and you can tell it's him. Samuel L. Jackson is like the evil twin of Jules from Pulp Fiction and Robert De Niro is fun as his criminal pal, adjusting to life out of prison. Bridget Fonda's a hidden treasure in her performance, she's good but you don't quite notice how good she really is. Story might be complicated for some, I didn't quite get it until I saw it a second time. A lot of characters you can get into, although I didn't really care for Michael Keaton's. 8/10

Kill Bill Vol.1 - My favourite action movie ever, maybe a bit too much action for some. I think that's more down to the insanely violent Crazy 88 scene, but it calms down afterwards with a samurai duel that oddly has a nice, spaghetti-western style theme. The story is basic, but I can really get into the whole "epic revenge" thing and I liked Uma Thurman's nameless character, "The Bride". 8/10

Kill Bill Vol.2 - What Vol.1 lacked in story, Vol.2 makes up for it with a lesser emphasis on action and more focusing on the backstory of Bill and The Bride, whose name we find out. This really helps with building up to the emotional climax and the conversation that preceeds it which finally explains Bill's motive to try and kill her. Gordon Liu is also fun as your typical Kung Fu master, who seems like he's stepped out of a Japanese film from the 60s. 8.5/10

Death Proof - The lesser of his movies, I didn't really like him switching to a horror-style film. An hour is spent building up these characters, annoying female bitches, I call them that because I couldn't get into them or come close to liking them. One of them is even stupid enough to stick her leg out the window of the moving car, a move so stupid that I think Tarantino did it just to make us shout "You dumb bitch!" at the screen. Not a bad idea on his part, now that I think about it. Kurt Russell is the saving grace here, with his brilliant performance as Stuntman Mike. 6/10

The Day the Earth Stood Still [2008]

Going into this movie I thought it was going to be extremely boring and uniteresting. I wasn't too far off. I have heard people talk good about this movie but I really didn't see anything that was so great. The visual effects were great but otherwise the whole plot doesn't seem like anything interesting. I'm sure the original was a much better movie because of the time it was released. This just seems to play off as another sci-fi movie. It isn't a bad rental, but I didn't want to finish the movie. It's about an alien who comes down to somewhat decide if Earth deserves to be destroyed or not.

Transiberian - 6.0 / 10

Watchable, somewhat interesting, but ultimately forgettable. Relatively standard "couple meets a creepy but intriguing couple and things ensue", with the expected sexual tension and semi-thrills that come with all that. A decent enough film, but don't expect it to take you unique places. Also wish they could have done a bit more with the Russian scenery. Ah well...
