I don't think we should be looking at how white he is, rather how fucked in the head he is. But damn he is whiter than I am. He could definitely pull of goth.
It's not a rumor, its fact. He bleached his skin, supposedly because he hated his father so much that he didn't want to look like him. Hence the white skin and playdoh face
One rumour I heard was that he had his skin bleached.
Well, thats a rumor and is TOTALLY false.
The truth is he had an illness called vitiligo.
Vitiligo (vit-ill-EYE-go) is a pigmentation disorder in which melanocytes (the cells that make pigment) in the skin are destroyed.
If you don't believe, you can search the wiki. It has some photos showing MJ in the earlier stage of that disease.

I knew that he had vitiligo and I'm surprised we didn't know about how he became white? I once watched a talk show when there was a african-american who suffered from vitiligo, used makeup to hide his vitiligo from the public. I hate the fact that MJ suffered from it and being mocked about it.

We didn't know about it because for years his PR team would leak out these weird and odd facts about him to make him seem "mysterious" and appeal to odd groups of folks to bring him to new markets.
- He sleeps in a bubble
- He bought the elephant mans bones
- Skin Bleaching
Fact is the gossip got so out of hand it made him just seem like a weird freak and by the time he came forward and told the truth it was too late and people quit giving a shit.
So it's partly a rumor mill that was of his own making to a degree.
Don't get me wrong he was an artist the likes of we'll rarely see again and I was a big fan of his music.
Just saying the thinking that he was completely blameless for what people say about his skin and lifestyle is a little naive.
