Rep Power: 6 Points: 25,811, Level: 70 | | Furtado red-faced over loose tongue Quote: Nelly Furtado
Canadian singer Nelly Furtado was red-faced yesterday over an interview she did with a European gay magazine which sparked rumours of her bisexuality on the internet.
In the Gus interview Furtado said: "I believe Kurt Cobain's statement that, in the end, everyone is gay. Everybody should have the freedom to experiment. I believe sexual experimentation is part of human history."
Asked if she was attracted to women, she said, blithely: "Absolutely. Women are beautiful and sexy."
In Sydney yesterday to promote her new album, appropriately titled Loose (the hit single is Promiscuous), Furtado told the Sydney Morning Herald's entertainment writer, Alexa Moses, that she was slightly embarrassed about the quotes.
"I guess I was humouring the journalist a little and I was reading a book about Chinese medicine, and we went off on a tangent," she said, confirming that she is straight, but very open-minded, and appreciates her gay and bisexual fans.
"I read a lot of books and I'm friends with lots of different kinds of people, and I don't see the world in black and white."
Furtado's new album is a hip-hop detour for the singer, whom the public associates with the bright, stick-in-your-head pop tracks I'm Like a Bird and Turn Out the Light
