| Browns Sign Three on Offense NFC champions Seattle Seahawks lost their first star to free agency as Joe Jurevicius joined the Cleveland Browns. The Hawks knew they would lose some key components of the team that reached the Super Bowl after making Shaun Alexander the highest paid running back in the NFL last week. And the 31-year-old receiver who has been to three Super Bowls in the past eight years with the New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Hawks was the first to depart. Jurevicius had 55 catches last season and led the team with ten receiving touchdowns. The Browns also made two moves to strengthen their offensive line on day one of the NFL's free agency period, signing New Orleans' Pro Bowl center LeCharles Bentley and Atlanta tackle Kevin Shaffrer. Ohio native Bentley received a six-year deal worth a reported $36 million. 26-year-old Shaffrer started all 16 games last season at left tackle for the Falcons. Meanwhile, running back DeShaun Foster has agreed to a three-year, $14.5 million contract with Carolina. The 25-year-old rushed for 879 yards at an average of 4.3 yards per carry last season and will be the Panthers feature back after the release of Stephen Davis last week. Foster, who has been plagued by injuries for most of his career, broke his leg in the play-off win over Chicago and missed the NFC Championship game in Seattle. |
