Tiger picks August 11 as North American release date for multimedia handheld.
Looking to grab some attention on the traditionally news-light final day of E3, Tiger Telematics announced today that its forthcoming Gizmondo multimedia handheld will launch in North America August 11.
Already available in Europe, the Gizmondo is being positioned as an all-in-one multimedia device that will primarily play games but can also play movies and music, take pictures with its built-in camera, send any of those files to other Gizmondo and mobile phone users, and handle instant messaging, and it has built-in GPS technology. The unit itself features a 2.8-inch TFT screen, a 400Mhz Samsung processor, 128-bit Nvidia3D graphics accelerator, an SD flash card reader, and Bluetooth wireless technology.
Tiger has announced that its 2005 lineup for the Gizmondo will include almost 90 games, many developed by heavyweights such as SCi, Microsoft Game Studios, Buena Vista Games, and, just added to the list this month, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts.
