Guggenheim Talks Green Lantern Script Source:ComicCon.com September 12, 2008
Almost a year ago it was announced that Greg Berlanti was set to direct the live-action take on DC Comics' Green Lantern, which he would write with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.
Now, Guggenheim has given ComicCon.com an update:
"I've been working my ass off on Green Lantern," he said, then laughed. "I'm ready for a weekend off. I really can't say too much about it. I've sworn a blood oath of secrecy. I will tell you it features Hal Jordan and is an incredibly faithful rendition of the character. It honors everything everyone loves about the hero. We approach it from a fan's perspective. Every step of the way, we ask ourselves what we want to see and what the fans will want to see. I think we have a script that will actually satisfy on those levels. Right now I'm just doing a rewrite for the studio with Greg [Berlanti] and Michael [Green]. We'll turn that in next week. We just keep moving forward. It's really good stuff!"
Green Lantern was created in 1940. Hal Jordan, a second-generation test pilot, is an ordinary man who has been charged with defending a sector of the universe.
It looks like Warner Bros. Green Lantern solo movie may be further along than a lot of people suspected. No, they still haven’t found a lead, but according to the guys at First Showing the film will be ready to start shooting by as early as next spring.
There are several script reviews out there detailing the plot, but in short it’s another origin story. Though we’re all getting a little sick of those, I suppose there’s no way around it. The movie will focus on Hal Jordan. In the comics, Hal is actually the second person to take up the ring of the Green Lantern. In the script that’s currently making the rounds, it sounds like fairly standard stuff. Hal is a guy with problems, and some sort of mental block or fear he has to get over. He gets super powers, in this case courtesy of some aliens, and becomes a hero.
No word on who they’re casting in the part yet. David Boreanaz was rumored at one point, which might have been interesting, but odds are that the WB is going the boring route of casting a big name. They’ve been scared off the no-name casting tactic by the perceived (and incorrect) failure of Superman Returns. With the movie filming in a matter of months, I suspect we’ll hear a lot more on the casting front, most of it probably faked by British newspapers, in the weeks to come.
We keep hearing reports that Warner Brothers and DC Comics are moving forward with their Green Lantern movie. Now we are hearing… the exact same thing, although this latest report confirms some of the names we had heard associated with the project before.
Writer Michael Green, who is sharing the scripting duties for Green Lantern, told Sci-Fi Wire that the project is proceeding, while he was promoting the upcoming series Kings, which he also has a hand in writing. Green confirmed the addition of director Martin Campbell to the movie, who we had last heard was in talks to helm the movie. I guess those talks panned out, since Green lists him as being the film’s director.
Green chimed in that he wants to see the movie move forward as a fan as much as a writer, because he’s a fan of the character. That’s always a good thing to have in a writer of a film adaptation. Here’s hoping the next piece of Green Lantern news we get isn’t just another “the project is moving forward” report though. source: cinemablend.com

Confirmed: Green Lantern Pulls Out of Australia

October 16, 2009
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Warner Bros. Pictures is pulling the production of director Martin Campbell's comic book adaptation Green Lantern out of Australia.
The studio said that "the current global economic situation, including fluctuations in currency valuation and overall costs. We have also had to reassess film projects in other countries as well."
"After working closely with our partners at the NSW Film and Television Office (Screen NSW) and examining every scenario, we have decided to move the production of 'Green Lantern.' We are extremely grateful for the assistance we have received from the NSW Government, Fox Studios and the NSW filmmaking community," the statement said.
The Green Lantern production is expected to move to either Mexico or Canada.
Starring Ryan Reynolds, the film is scheduled for a release on June 17, 2011.
The comic world and the interwebs have been ablur with rumors of the new Freddy Kruger, Jackie Earle Haley playing Green Lantern's arch nemesis Senestro. Collider caught up with him on the red carpet at Spike TV's Scream Awards (Yes, I forgot all about them too) and knew even less about the rumors of his involvement in Green Lantern than us.
Armed with a handheld camera Collider bombed him with a few questions. One of which was about his role as the yellow slinging bad guy. Unfortunately, it looks like there's not much substance to the rumors. Jackie was even surprised to hear about it. He says, "I don’t know anything about it yet. If something comes up I’ll let you know." It's back to square one in figuring out where the movie is headed.
Damn guess they were just rumors, but who knows he might be bluffing.
