This is a discussion on Scream 4 (TBA) within the Coming Attractions forums, part of the Entertainment Forums category; I never thought of scream as a horror film, just a teeny bopper drama. Did have some entertainment quality though...

Ugh, not another one of these damned movies. I didn't mind that first one that much for it's boldness to openly mock itself throughout the whole movie but just... the only word that comes to mind is ugh.

Machida successfully defending the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship with his face.
Scream was the embodiment of everything that was wrong with horror films in the 1990's.
That was the point though. Scream was more of a spoof of the state of the horror genre at that time than and actual horror movie. I loved the first two, simply for the sense of humour they had. The third was a bag of shite, and I see absolutely no reason to do a fourth, even with Williamson on board.
I remember reading that the Randy character might be back in it, which is just as dumb as his appearance in the third film, considering he died in the second. Gah!! I fucking hate Hollywood.

Last week, it was reported that Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette were in talks to star in a new "Scream" trilogy, which screenwriter Kevin Williamson is working on. Now, Digital Spy got a chance to ask Wes Craven, director of the first three movies, about the new project.
Craven tells the site that he is willing to read the script, expected to be done in August, and make a decision then as to whether he will direct the films. He also mentioned an interesting bit, saying that the Arquettes are confirmed to star and are the only ones returning from the original trilogy.
I guess this is becoming a reality.

Scream 4, Neve Campbell...What Gives?
Source:Pop Wrap
June 20, 2009
Even though Wes Craven suggested here that Neve Campbell won't be returning to Scream 4, there still seemed to be a modicum of surprise when Kevin Williamson expressed on his Twitter page "trying to figure out a Sid-less scenario, this sucks."
Pop Wrap caught up to the writer who is scheming a "new trilogy" for the franchise. Williamson clarifies: "I've had numerous conversations with Neve. She's a friend. Nicest girl on the planet. It just ain't workin' out and it sucks for me. It was no cameo. I'd never play Sid out that way. And I ain't got no Sid-less scenario. So, I don't know yet what to do. Hate all the wrong info circulating. My fault. There's a learning curve with Twitter. I gotta watch it."
Campbell barely showed any enthusiasm when Scream 3 rolled around (seriously, why would she?), so it was apparent she was trying to back out of the series. David Arquette and Courteney Cox-Arquette, so far, are the only two remaining cast members that appear to be coming back for the sequel.
Who the hell would want to stay with the franchise? She's smart to stay away

Scream 4 in my opinion just wouldn't work without the three constants of Neve, Courtney and David. To bad they killed off Randy. His character was awesome.
Courteney Cox Talks Scream 4
Source: SCI FI Wire
August 10, 2009
Quote:
SCI FI Wire talked to Courteney Cox about returning as TV reporter Gale Weathers in Kevin Williamson's Scream 4.
"She has a kid now," Cox said while promoting her new ABC show "Cougar Town." "She's married to Dewey."
Williamson has said that the fourth film will be the beginning of a new trilogy, but Cox has no trepidations about beginning another three films. "No, because [I take things] one day at a time," she said. "But I heard the idea for 'Scream 4,' and it's fantastic."
Here we go again. hmmm.
