So we've seen remakes of Halloween (dumb), Friday the 13th is coming soon, and next we have Freddy?
How about coming up with your own ideas rather than just recycling old movies again? GAH. Cheap and easy way to make a buck.
I actually didn't mind the Halloween remake. Thought it was pretty well done, all things considered. It also helps that it was done in a manner intended to honor the original, rather than simply being an update as most remakes are.
As long as the remakes add something to their own into the situations, I don't mind them. They might attract a new(er) audience, so I don't see a problem with that.
For example:
The original films were done over 20 years ago. There's plenty of individuals alive that weren't then, so you've got box office draw right there. There's also plenty of individuals (like myself) who weren't into the cheesy way the series was done back then, so, you run the chance of drawing those fans in. Then you have the new stars, their fans, etc, who will go and see it just for them. Then you've got the die hard fans who will see every movie in the series (again). This all amounts to good cash. Lucas proved this very well with the successful re-releases of the second trilogy into theater. I'm certainly not comparing all classics to the SW saga, but , the potential is most definitely there.
Nightmare on Elm Street Relaunch Gets Its Director
Quote:
The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Business Blog has gotten early word on who will be helming the Platinum Dunes remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street and it's none other than music video director Samuel Bayer, the man responsible for MTV's introduction to grunge in the form of Nirvana's award-winning "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video.
No word on when production will start on the movie that was being scripted by Wesley Strick (Arachnophobia), but Bayer is also slated to helm the Platinum Dunes thriller Fiasco Heights according to the story

Re: A Nightmare On Elm Street - Preview & Discussion
A Nightmare On Elm Street is my favorite horror movie hands down! The fact that they are doing a remake does not bother me...because I think some of the horror/slasher remakes are in. But the fact that another guy is playing Freddy...I have a problem with. It's easy to cast a Jason or Michael Myers...but everyone knows that Robert Englund (Probally spelled his name wrong) is indeed Freddy. I heard in the second film they tried to get to actors to play him...and even a small part in part 3...but nobody could capatalize as Freddy. So in this I think it is cool..because they can make Freddy scary again. But seriously I don't give a fuck how old he is...they need to get Robert to be the man with the glove once more.
Those rumors about Billy Bob being Fred best be bullshit lol

idk, ya the original guy that played freddy was great, but this is a new film a reboot. it makes sense to have a new guy play freddy. jack nicholson was great as the joker, but im glad they got heath ledger to play him in a new batman.

Re: A Nightmare On Elm Street - Preview & Discussion
After spending the past decade becoming more and more upset with remake news, I've learned to relax a bit and wait before I chalk it up as a failure. As resistant as I am about a new actor playing Freddy, a new actor may be just what the series needs. Much in the case of replacing Kane Hodder (As Jason Voorhees) and Donald Pleasence (As Doctor Loomis), it allowed a new actor to try out a new approach to an old character. In the case of Kane Hodder, without realizing it, a character might be missing something, but due to an actor being so used to the character, changes do not happen.
Robert Englund will forever be known as Freddy. Just as Sean Connery is fondly remembered as James Bond, regardless of how many new actors play the character. With the reboot, I'm all in favor of experimenting with a new Freddy.
