Re: A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010 - New Trailer!)
I really don't think it changes too much. So many slasher movies are about someone wrongfully dying and coming back to kill those responsible. It's up to the writers to still make Freddy villainous once he comes back. Whether he did do it or not, the viewers are going to go to the movie to cheer Freddy on.

It's different for me because if he's a child molester I want to see him get his.. you know? If he's innocent, then he becomes a sympathetic figure and most likely an anti-hero.

But he's still a prick for going after the children of those who killed him. Once he goes after anyone not directly involved in his killings, he loses that sympathy.

I can see that. The same argument was made for when In Zombie's Halloween, Myers kills the security guy who had been helping him out.. it's supposed to signify the change from revengeful/sympathetic to psychopath with no regard for human life.. but my problem with that is that we spent the whole movie feeling bad for myers prior to this point. Same thing with Freddy. If they hammer home the thought that he's innocent.. it's going to take something away for me..

Not to get too far away from Freddy talk, but Michael was the product of both nature and nurture. It wasn't just the fact that he had a rough life that made him a killer. Him killing Danny Trejo's character really signified that he's a monster and always was. The bad environment just masked Michael's real problems.
