Fighting for Team Canada is Rich Franklin who this weekend is up against Wanderlei Silva of Team Demolition as they fight in a catch weight fight of 195 lbs. This comes about after a role reversal of weight classes, Franklin has returned to the Light Heavyweight division after a long stay at Middleweight, where as Silva has moved down to Middleweight from Light Heavyweight. Looking to bounce back from a loss at the hands of Dan Henderson, Franklin is looking to cement his place in the Light Heavyweight division, where as it is much of the same for Silva only with different circumstances. Wanderlei Silva has lost four of his five last fights with two of those being in the UFC and is hoping that a move down in weight will get his mixed martial arts career back on the fast track, a win over Franklin would do no harm at all.
In the UFC's Heavyweight division, Cheick Kongo of Team Sawyer heads into battle against Team Diabeetus' undefeated heavy hitter Cain Velasquez. Kongo is a UFC veteran having fought in the octagon a total of nine times, having only lost one of those fights. Entering the octagon for a tenth times, Kongo looks to move himself ever closer to Brock Lesnar's Heavyweight title. Velasquez is undefeated in his mixed martial arts career, although having only fought on five occasions, three of those being with the UFC. All of Velasquez fights have ended via TKO and he looks to continue on that path to leapfrog Kongo into the title picture.
Looking to get Team THC off to a good start is fight finishing specialist Mike Swick, when he goes head to head with the Ultimate Fighter alumni Ben Saunders. Swick started his UFC career with a bang when his first four UFC bouts lasted a total of five minutes and ten seconds earning him the nickname of "Quick", but he then gained a habbit of leaving the fights in the judges hands. However in Swicks last fight he showed that he still has what it takes to end fights early and this weekend he plans on doing so once more.
The second fight representing Team Sawyer is Marcus Davis. On a current two fight winning streak after defeating Christ Lytle last, Davis is looking to put bad blood and words aside and let his fists do the talking as he looks to go to war with cocky British fighter Dan Hardy. The two have had a war of words in the build up to this fight and Davis cannot wait to get his hands on Hardy, or at least his face.
Also stepping up for Team Diabeetus is the always exciting Spencer Fisher as he goes up against veteran of the sport Caol Uno. Coming off of a last grasp submission victory over Shannon Gugerty, Fisher is looking to spoil the UFC return of Uno who hasn't fought inside the UFC octagon since September 2003 when he fought and lost to Hermes Franca at UFC 44.
Looking to earn Team Demolition's second lot of points is returning Mirko Cro Cop. Cro Cop his making his long awaited return to the UFC but after his first stint was far short of successful, he says that this time will be differet and he aims to keep his word by making short work of Mustapha al Turk.
Finally, looking to get Team Livin Loud's campaign underway is Britains Paul Kelly. Kelly, who trains with the likes of Michael Bisping and "Rampage" Jackson, is looking to fight his way back onto the main cards of UFC events after a minor setback at the hand of Marcus Davis. However, coming of a decision victory over Troy Mandaloniz, Kelly looks to make it two in a row.
