Rebooking History: Part 2, 1996 WCW with no nWo

This week's scenario: It's March of 1996. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall have given their word that their coming to WCW. However, the following month, both sign contract extensions with the World Wrestling Federation. This puts to rest any plans for the New World Order. Because the WCW is being destroyed in ratings, you are being brought in to turn WCW around because Eric Bischoff's plows at WWF stars have failed.

The Job: Book WCW from May 1996 to Starrcade in December; Turn Hulk Hogan heel without the nWo.

Step One: Picking a roster of I'll say about 25, give or take a few(minus nonwrestlers). You can give reasons, but it's not necessary. Me, I'll give a few reasons, or explanations where needed

Rules: The May 1996 WCW roster can be found
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
. You may use anyone from there. You may bring in up to 6 outside guys. This may include up to 3 foreigners,up to 2 guys from the WWF roster(none of which can be Kliq members), or up to 3 guys from the ECW roster. Obviously, you can't bring in 3 foreigners, 2 WWF guys and 3 ECW guys, cause that's 8. Also, Chris Benoit was on the roster in 1996, but I will not use him. It's up to you. Now, obviously, you need a bigger roster and you can make it as big as you want really, but I'm trying to only use people involved in the event we're booking towards.

Underlined indicates outside talent.

Main Event/World Title:
Hulk Hogan- He's required, so yeah...
Ric Flair
Sting- Now, it took me awhile to get this down, but I think I figured out a way to turn Sting into the "crow" Sting.
Randy "Macho Man" Savage
The Giant

Upper Midcard/US Title:
Arn Anderson
Brian Pillman
Taz-
Taz was awesome at this point and he could be groomed to be a future WCW Champion.
Eddie Guerrero
Dean Malenko
Lord Steven Regal

Scott Norton- Norton, quite frankly, was never very good in WCW, but as a monster, he was talented in Japan. That's pretty much the role he'd use here. And he'd managed by good old Corny.
Diamond Dallas Page

Tag Team Division:
The Steiner Brothers
The Eliminators(Perry Saturn and John Kronus)- I would love to see these guys get a chance to shine "where the big boys play", so with me booking, I'd bring them in from ECW.
Public Enemy
Harlem Heat

Lower Midcard/TV and Cruiserweight Titles:
Rey Mysterio Jr.
Jerry Lynn- With a changed personan, different of the Mr. JL character, he'd be young cocky heel.
Hayabusa- Amazing talent who never got a real chance to shine in the US.
"Das Wunderkind" Alex Wright
Billy Kidman

Non-Wrestlers:
Jim Cornette- Brought in to manage Scott Norton.
Roddy Piper- Authority figure. I'd rather him not wrestle either.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step Two: Starrcade Card.

WCW World Heavyweight Title Match
Hulk Hogan(c) vs. Randy Savage- This would be the Mega Powers collide for the 2nd time. Being that Macho is the kind of worker he is at this point, he could carry the Hulkster to a good match imo.

The Giant vs. ?Sting?- I'll get into the explanation later.

Cage Match
Brian Pillman vs. Ric Flair
- I personally think this would own all kinds of ass. You could have Pillman working the Loose Cannon and Flair working the veteren face who could still play it dirty.

US Title Match
Steven Regal(c) vs. Dean Melenko vs. Eddie Guerrero- All three guys probably in their prime. Should be an amazing match.

Scott Norton vs. DDP- DDP plays an amazing underdog and that's just what he'd be playing in this match.

TV Title Match- Ladder Match
Jerry Lynn vs. Hayabusa(c)- I don't think this needs an explanation, match-wise.

Arn Anderson vs. Taz- Hard hitting fight. This has always been a dream match of mine.

Tag Team Title Match
The Steiner Brothers(c) vs. The Eliminators-
The Steiners pwnt back in these days and the Eliminators were one of the best at the time as well. Winning formula.

Cruiserweight Title Match
Alex Wright vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.(c) vs. Billy Kidman- It would be spotty fun. Nothing long and drawn out, just a lower card cruiserweight spotfest.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Step Three: How I Got Said Matches.

Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage feud/backround
It's April. The WCW Champion is the heel Giant. He is dominating as champion. Until in May, he is beaten by the Immortal One Hulk Hogan, much to the delight of fans. Sting, who had recently won the #1 contender's spot, is next in line to face Hogan. The two go into the match, held in late May, very respectfully. And for most of the contest, it is wrestled how expected. Until The Giant, who hadn't been seen since losing the title comes out while Sting has Hulk in the Death Lock. With Hogan incapisitated, The Giant desimates Sting. Hogan then recovers and chases the Giant away as the Giant laughs. Hogan then turns and hits the legdrop on Sting and the Giant comes into the ring and the two embrace. Hogan explains that he is the reason WCW has ever had any success and he's saving WCW by making sure the belt never leaves his waist. He also explains that the Giant threw the match a month earlier, because he knows what Hogan means to WCW. Sting appears the next week on Nitro and challenges Hogan again. Sting, knowing that Hogan would use the Giant in the match recruits the current WCW Tag Team Champions the Steiner Brothers to back him up. This backfires when Sting, again has Hogan in the Death Lock and Rick and Scott interfere, taking out Sting. The four men, Rick, Scott, Hulk, and Giant beat the hell out of Sting, putting him out of commision for a good long while and the Steiners justify their heel turn the same way Hogan did, stating their looking out for the Tag Team division's best interest. Now, fast forward from July to about September. Hogan is running wild as champion, still. The Giant and the Steiners are making him virtually untouchable, Ric Flair is busy with Horsemen business, there's no authority to step in and take charge and S. That is, until Hulk's former friend, Randy Savage returns to WCW. The two go back and forth on the mic and Hulk says Savage can only get a title shot if he beats The Giant at Fall Brawl. When that match takes place, The Giant is using his size, when suddenly the lights go out(why? more on that later). When they come back on, Giant is out and Macho is unaware of what happened. He then goes up top and hits a big elbow for the win. Hogan then comes out the following Nitro and declares that he will not defend the title against Savage at World War 3 because there was clear interference in the match. Being that there is still no authority present, this basically goes with no problem other than from Macho. So, Savage enters himself in th World War 3 match and gets down to the final 3, but with the Giant and Scott Steiner being the other two left, he is disposed of after a good fight. I'll explain why later, but there is no official winner of the World War 3 match and after the match concludes and new authority figure is revealed. His name? Rowdy Roddy Piper. The Hot Scot's first action is rewarding Randy Savage the #1 contendership spot and says that Hogan will be forced to defend his title at Starrcade or be stripped. So the match is officially set as the main event of the biggest show of the year. Could Hogan's reign of terror finally end? Will Randy Savage fail after trying so hard to get a title shot? We'll see.

The Giant vs. ?Sting? feud
Now, being that Sting was injured which I already explained, I will start this at WW3 in the WW3 match. The final two are Scott Steiner and the Giant, both members of Hogan's group. They discuss with eachother who should win and things begin to get heated when the lights cut out again, just like at Fall Brawl. This time however, both Scott and Giant are taken out, but their on the outside of the ring, therefore ending the match, but leaving it with no winner. The only thing left in the ring is a spotlight the shines down onto the middle that shows a black scorpion. For the next few weeks, the Giant keeps finding strange things everywhere, each seems to suggest that Sting is after him. The Giant,3 weeks before Starrcade, issues a challenge to Sting, saying they should meet at Starrcade and if Sting's really a man, he'll show up. Will he? Will it prove to be someone else? We'll see.

Brian Pillman and Taz vs. Ric Flair and Arn Anderson feud
Let me just say, that this would be my favorite feud going in and probably my favorite match of the night. So, we start off in May. The Horsemen are riding high. Pillman and Arn are working the Tag Team division and Flair is working is way up to Hulk's World Title. However, things begin to look rough when Pillman begins to display some non-horsemen like qualities. Things that are edgy and loose-cannon like and not the way a horsemen should act. These actions build up and up until finally in July when Pillman nearly gets himself fired after threatening to expose himself on live TV. The Horsemen have a meeting and it ends in Anderson and Flair forcing Pillman out of the group. Pillman basically bows his head and walks off, scorned. He goes unseen for a couple of weeks until he cuts the two off during an interview. He starts off normal but it slowly turns into a "he's better them and never needed them" type of promo by Pillman onto Anderson and Flair. He says that there's no way Flair could beat him. He calls Flair old and washedup and when The Enforced, Arn Anderson, steps into Pillman's face he asks what he's gonna do about it and slaps Arn across the face. The leads to Arn spinebusting him in the middle of the ring. Arn and Pillman go at it for awhile, with Pillman only wanting to get at Flair. Then in October, Flair earns himself a WCW Title shot. Hogan wins the match by cheating and immediatly afterward, Pillman runs out and pummles Flair. Then, just as Arn Anderson runs down to help the Nature Boy he is stopped by the debuting Taz. Taz chokes out Arn and Pillman introduces him as his way to ensure that no one is in the way of Flair anymore. Both men are in the WW3 match so the match is finally set for Starrcade and will take place inside a steel cage. In between, the men are constantly at eachother's throats, with Pillman attacking Flair with a fork and with Flair trying to cripple Pillman. Can Pillman take out the veteren using his airial assault? Or will Flairs old tricks land him the victory in this long standing feud? We'll see.

US Title

In WCW, the US Title was used quite strangley. It wasn't treated as equal to the World, but wasn't treated as a 2nd tier title either really, what with the people who held it. So, I'd use the US Title similer to how the IC Title used to be used in the WWF. It would be people who were being groomed for the ME, but would still float in the upper-midcard for quite awhile. Now, it's May. The US Title is on Konnan, but with him being released due to roster cuts, a tournament is held for the title. The winner of the tournament is Dean Malenko, after defeating Arn Anderson in the finals. Now, Malenko is a defending and very succesful champion. That is, until Fall Brawl, when he loses his title to Lord Steven Regal, after being pinned when Regal had illegal rope leverage. The same night, Eddie Guererro wins a match to determine the #1 contender for the title. Eddie decides to cash in his oppurtunity at Starrcade, but the former US Champ, Dean Malenko is standing in the way, saying he's using his rematch clause at Starrcade. A match is held between the two to determine who gets the actual shot, but it ends in a time limit draw and the triple threat match is set for Starrcade. Will Regal retain? Will Malenko regain his title? Will Eddie Guerrero be able to overcome the odds and win his first US Title? We'll see.

Scott Norton vs. DDP
Scott Norton debuts in WCW in August, managed by the WWF stolen Jim Cornette. He is a monster. He tears through anyone who is put in front of him. He's not given a real feud at all, other than with glorified jobbers who he demolishes. Until the night after Fall Brawl when Diamond Dallas Page steps up and wants a shot at the big man. The two go back and forth and the match is set for Starrcade. Norton repeatedly gets an edge on DDP, beating him up 3 weeks in a row, until the week heading into Starrcade when DDP hits a Diamond Cutter out of nowhere and lays Scott out. Should be an intriguing match up. Will Scott Norton's undefeated streak continue? Will DDP be the first man to defeat him? We'll see.

TV Title
Well, Hayabusa is the champion. He won it in about August. Since then he's taken all competitors. Recently, Jerry Lynn has denounced the "Mr. JL" gimmick and joined up with team Hogan. With motivation from them, in the weeks leading up to Starrcade, he's seeked out Hayabusa and made it known that he wants the TV Title. Will the cocky edge to Jerry Lynn prevail? Will Hayabusa continue his reign as champ? We'll see

Tag Team Titles
Because of their alliance with The Hulkster, the fans pretty much despise the Steiners at this point. They've been champions since May and have been pretty undefending and certainly haven't maintained dignigity in succesful title defenses. However, with the emergence of Roddy Piper, and new team has been added to the mix: The Eliminators. Claiming he brought them from somewhere else, these two are set to challenge the Steiners in their in ring debuts. The two have got in a few scuffles leading into the PPV and Piper has made it so if the Steiners cheat they lose the belts. Will then newly discovered Eliminators win the tag team titles? Can the Steiners maintain cleaness in the defense? We'll see.

Cruiserweight Title
Now, this title wouldn't have a whole lot of build to it. Mainly, Rey is champion, Alex Wright thinks he's worthy of the belt, and Kidman is a young up and comer who sees this as his chance.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step Four: Results of Starrcade

Cruiserweight Title Match
Billy Kidman over Rey Mysterio Jr and Alex Wright- Wright would later take the title from him and have a decent reign, while Mysterio would transision into the higher card. Kidman is just a young kid who wins some gold because of his heart.

Tag Team Title Match
The Steiner Brothers(c) over The Eliminators- The Eliminators would get their time to shine, but for now, it needs to be the Steiners who win this, cause otherwise they look very weak.

Taz over Arn Anderson- Taz would later seperate from Pillman and go after the US Title. Arn would look good, nearly beating the young machine several times, but in the end, Taz prevails.

TV Title Match- Ladder Match
Jerry Lynn over Hayabusa- Hayabusa doesn't need it to get over, and at this point Lynn does. Simple as that.

Scott Norton over DDP- DDP would put up a fight, but at this point, it's better for Norton to go over.

US Title Match
Eddie Guerrero over Steven Regal(c) and Dean Melenko - After this, the title would switch around a little beteween the three before settling, but for right now, it's Eddie's time for gold.

Cage Match
Ric Flair over Brian Pillman- The entire match, Flair does everything he can to use his submissions to stop Pillman's air attack. Throughout, the men get quite bloody and they match turns brutal, even though it starts off pretty technical. Because of the work that's been done on his legs, Pillman tries and fails the signature Air Pillman about 3 times until finally completing the move late in the match, however, Flair is hit at such an angle that he locks in a figure four and Pillman has no choice but to tap. After the match, Flair extends the hand and asks for a handshake; Pillman wipes the blood from his face at at Flair and walks away. Pillman stays a strong heel, Flair is ready to take on Hogan while Sting is fending off the rest of Hogan's posse.

Sting over The Giant- Giant comes out and says Sting isn't showing up. He demands that the ref begin to count to ten, when the lights go out. When they come back on, Sting is in the ring, in full on Crow attire, which would be debuting. Basically, he makes somewhat quick work of the Giant, but in a manner that doesn't bury him. Giant makes some mistakes, not knowing what Sting's gonna do and Sting capitalizes.

WCW World Heavyweight Title Match
Hulk Hogan(c) over Randy Savage- This would be a hard fought match on both sides. At the end, Macho hits a diving elbow, that would surely secure victory and he gets what he thinks is the win, but after review from another ref, it's determined that Hogan's foot was on the rope, even though it wasn't. At the re-start of the match, Hogan hits a quick powerslam and a leg drop to win. After the match, however Sting appears in the rafters and points his bat at Hogan.
