On April 2nd, 2006 at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois suburb of Rosemont, the World Wrestling Entertainment presented its BIGGEST Pay-Per-View of all time, WWE WrestleMania 22. The event featured performers from both the Raw and SmackDown! Brands.
The main match heading into the Raw Brand was the WWE Champion, “The Champ” John Cena defending the title against the 10-time World Champion, “The King of Kings”, Triple H.
The predominant match heading into the SmackDown! Brand was “The Only Olympic Gold Medallist in Sports Entertainment” Kurt Angle defending the World Heavyweight Championship against “The Legend Killer” Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio in a Triple Threat Match.

Viscera def. Snitsky, Johnny Nitro, Joey Mercury, The Road Warrior, William Regal, Eugene, Goldust, Super Crazy, Psicosis, Rob Conway, Tyson Tomko, Lance Cade, Trevor Murdoch, Simon Dean, Stevie Richards, Matt Striker, and Funaki in an 18-man Interpromotional Battle Royal Over The Top Rope Match in the Dark Match (9:00) Raw Superstar, “The Love Machine” Viscera eliminated fellow Raw Superstar, Snitsky last after Viscera threw him over the top rope to win the Dark Match. After the match, Viscera exited the ring and kissed Raw Ring Announcer, Lillian Garcia.
Big Show and Kane (c) def. Carlito and Chris Masters to retain the WWE World Tag Team Championships (6:41) “The World’s Largest Athlete” Big Show and “The Big Red Machine” Kane retained the WWE World Tag Team Championships by defeating Carlito and “The Masterpiece” Chris Masters when Kane Chokeslammed Carlito and pinned him for the victory. After the match, Carlito argued with Masters in the outside.
Rob Van Dam def. Shelton Benjamin, Ric Flair, Bobby Lashley, Finlay, and Matt Hardy in a Money In The Bank Ladder Match (12:21) “Mr. Monday Night” Rob Van Dam managed to win the Money In The Bank Ladder Match when RVD, WWE Intercontinental Champion, Shelton Benjamin, and Matt Hardy were fighting on two ladders as RVD was on one ladder and Shelton and Matt were on the other one. RVD kicked Shelton’s and Matt’s ladder and sent them smashing to the outside and RVD climbed the ladder and received the Money In The Bank Briefcase from the top to win the match.
John Bradshaw Layfield (w/Jillian Hall) def. Chris Benoit (c) to win the WWE United States Championship (9:44) “The Wrestling God” JBL won his first ever WWE United States Championship by managing to defeat “The Rabid Wolverine” Chris Benoit after JBL went for a Clothesline from Hell but Benoit caught his arm and locked him in the Crossface. However, when it looked like JBL was about to tap out, JBL flipped Benoit over on his back and used the ropes for leverage to get the pinfall for the victory.
Edge (w/Lita) def. Mick Foley in a Hardcore Match (14:37) In a very intense and violent match, “The Rated -R- Superstar” Edge actually defeated “The Hardcore Legend” Mick Foley in a Hardcore Match when Edge’s girlfriend and valet, Lita hit Foley with a barbed wire bat to his knees when he was on the ring apron after Foley set up a table. Lita then lit the table on fire which allowed Edge to Spear Foley off the ring apron right through the flaming table. Edge then covered Foley in the outside for the win.
Boogeyman def. Booker T and Sharmell in a Handicap Match (3:52) The Boogeyman defeated “The 5-time WCW Champion” Booker T and his wife, Sharmell in a Handicap Match when Boogeyman hit a Falling Chokeslam on Booker and pinned him for the win. After the match, Sharmell tried to low blow Boogeyman but Boogeyman caught her hand and kissed her! Sharmell then slapped Boogeyman and ran up the ramp in tears as Boogeyman put worms over Booker in the ring.
Mickie James def. Trish Stratus (c) to win the WWE Women’s Championship (8:48) The women who is "obsessed" with Trish Stratus, Mickie James won the WWE Women’s Championship off her idol after Mickie hit a Mick Kick to the head of Trish and covered her for the win.
Undertaker def. Mark Henry (w/Daivari) in a Casket Match (9:26) “The Phenom” Undertaker kept his WrestleMania Streak alive by setting it to a record of 14-0 by defeating “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry in a Casket Match after Taker hit a Tombstone Piledriver on Henry, then pulled him back up and threw him into the casket to win the match.
Shawn Michaels def. Mr. McMahon in a No Holds Barred Match (18:28) “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels defeated WWE Chairman, Mr. McMahon in a No Holds Barred Match. During the match, McMahon’s son, Shane McMahon and The Spirit Squad ran down to the ring to help McMahon but all got taken out by Shawn. Near the end of the match, Michaels climbed a ladder and hit McMahon with a diving elbow drop with a trashcan over McMahon’s head. Michaels then hit the Sweet Chin Music on McMahon and pinned him for the victory.
Randy Orton def. Kurt Angle (c) and Rey Mysterio in a Triple Threat Match to win the World Heavyweight Championship (9:18) Before the match began, P.O.D. performed Rey Mysterio’s entrance theme live. However, as it looked like Rey Mysterio was about to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the late great, Eddie Guerrero near the end of the match when he hit the 619 on World Heavyweight Champion, Kurt Angle, Rey was about to go for the West Coast Pop but his friend and nephew of Eddie, Chavo Guerrero ran out with a steel chair and left everyone in shock when he hit it over the back of Rey. Rey fell down in pain and looked on in shock as Chavo walked up the ramp laughing. In the ring, Kurt was also shocked but got turned around by Randy Orton who hit the RKO and got the pinfall to win his second World Heavyweight Championship. After the match, a lot of fans were giving heat as Eddie’s wife, Vickie Guerrero ran down to the outside to check on Rey as she was also in shock over Chavo’s actions.
Torrie Wilson def. Candice Michelle in a Playboy Pillow Fight (3:54) Torrie Wilson managed to defeat her former friend, Candice Michelle when Torrie pulled down Candice’s dress and rolled her up and got the pinfall for the win.
John Cena (c) def. Triple H to retain the WWE Championship (22:02)
It was now time for the main event of WrestleMania 22 as WWE Champion, “The Champ” John Cena defended the title against “The King of Kings” Triple H. Both men came out in different styles during their entrances. Triple H came out dressed as Conan the Barbarian-type King while Cena came out with a tommy gun and was accompanied by a group of “gangsters” (one of them OVW Wrestler, CM Punk) in a 1940s Chicago-era vehicle. It was the best match of the night but the end result came when Cena hit an FU on Triple H. Cena went for the cover but Triple H kicked out at the two count. Cena then locked Triple H in the STFU but Triple H got to the ropes. Cena then pulled Triple H away from the ropes and Triple H submitted to the move by tapping out which meant that John Cena retained the WWE Championship.
