After the Chris Benoit incident Vince McMahon was called to defend himself and his company against allegations of drug usage among WWE wrestlers going unacknowledged.
Vince McMahon spent the following months giving a less than convincing defence. The tribunal presiding over the hearing found Vince McMahon guilty of the charges brought before him.
Vince McMahon was issued with an order to pay undisclosed compensation to all the family's of wrestlers who had died in recent years due to drug usage. The most notable being Chris Benoit & Eddie Geurrero.
On top of compensation Vince McMahon was also fined an undisclosed amount instead of serving a prison sentence.
When the small details became public knowledge the media took aim and ran riot. WWE then went into Free-fall. Sci-Fi dropped ECW hours after they found out. Two days later the CW network dropped Smackdown! Five days later, after much debate, The USA network dropped Raw.
Left with no TV time & no network willing to negotiate with WWE, one by one, the sponsors started to pull out.
Vince McMahon's bank account was hit hard over the following weeks & tried to release talent but could not afford the pay-off.
On Monday, October 1st 2007, WWE sent out a press release.
"Due to the unforeseen and misfortunate circumstance that World Wrestling Entertainment finds itself in we have unfortunately no other choice than to cease trading, effective immediately.
We apologize to all the fans and to all the performers who are now unemployed."
With WWE no more wrestling was at a cross-roads.

TNA have wasted little time in snapping up newly unemployed talent. Matt Hardy & Ken Kennedy have today signed long term deals. Kennedy is believed to have a guaranteed World title reign in his contract whereas Matt Hardy has the same for the X-Division title.
Both are scheduled to debut at the October 14th Pay Per View, Bound For Glory.
TNA are still negotiating with several other wrestlers. None of which we can confirm at this point in time.

Been wondering why so few of WWE's top talent has been signed by other companies? Reports suggest that Triple H & Stephanie McMahon are starting their own company to replace WWE. If this happen's its pratcally a given that Shawn Michaels will join. Regardless of the rest of the roster it will have at least two big names.
Another TNA exit
Jerry Jarrett, the man who co-founded TNA over five years ago has today ended his time with the company. Jarrett asked Dixie Carter for his contract to be terminated as he was no longer enjoying the job. Jeff Jarrett is said to be furious with TNA management over their lack of effort in trying to keep Jerry on board. Jerry Jarrett had been working as a road-agent.

"I left TNA because instead of being the alternative, they had become another wrestling promotion. That was not my goal. I tried to get a change in direction over recent months but i was shot down. I wish Jeff, Dixie & everyone involved in TNA all the best. Maybe someday i'll see them again but not from the TNA point of view."
