    White Rose Championship Wrestling

White Rose Championship Wrestling is a wrestling organisation set up by wrestling fanatic and English entrepreneur, Simon Bedford. Simon Bedford, a huge wrestling fan, had an idea fior a weekly PPV modelled wrestling business. Bedford approached a number of businesses with his idea, offering a share of the business and prominent product placement in advertising on ring aprons, ringside, etc. in return for investment. With the buy in of several national UK businesses, Bedford approached the second largest digital TV provider in Virgin Media to carry the weekly PPV’s and air exclusively on virgin Media. While the audience is substantially less than other digital TV providers, a number of 10000 PPV buys a week (at a cost of £4.99 each) would see the company at least break even. With an audience of 2million homes, that’s roughly half a percent of the number of Virgin Media subscribers required to purchase the weekly PPV. Combined with an internet only show that lasts 30 minutes once per week to promote the product and increase interest in the weekly PPV’s, Bedford has devised an innovative business plan that has seen a UK wrestling show return to the TV screens in the UK for the first time in 25 years.

The business is run out of Leeds, Yorkshire, England. The symbol of Yorkshire is the white rose, and being a proud Yorkshireman, Simon decided to call the business White Rose Championship Wrestling. The weekly PPV, airing on Friday nights is simply called Friday Night Wrestling. A roster has been built – the best possible considering the money available and who was available at the time.

The quest for the White Rose Heavyweight Championship begins here…
Note – This is a fictional fed, where all characters are of my creation. The image bases used for wrestlers I found in the image pack for Grey Dog Software’s TEW 2005 from the cornellverse.

    Re: White Rose Championship Wrestling

    Abigail Fox

Abigail Fox is the backstage roving reporter for White Rose Championship Wrestling. She has been rumoured to be romantically involved with owner and colour commentator Simon Bedford.

    Apocalypse

Apocalypse is a 7’2” rookie from Newcastle, England. He weighs in at over 500lbs. I don’t care what anyone says – whether a rookie or a veteran of the business a giant competitor of this size is a force to be reckoned with. White Rose Championship Wrestling is Apocalypse’s first professional wrestling company.

    Finisher – Apocalyptic Chokeslam

    Chris Jeffrey

24 year old Chris Jeffrey from Leeds, England is a tag team competitor, teaming with his older brother, Mark Jeffrey. The Jeffrey Brothers have floated around the UK wrestling scene for a few years, gaining notoriety as a high flying team, before being signed by Simon Bedford for WRCW.

Finisher – Jeffrey Dive (Chris and Mark take up places on opposing turnbuckles – Chris hits a frogsplash while Mark hits a legdrop

    Claude Beaumont

Claude Beaumont, from Montpellier, France is known for teaming with his younger brother, Eric as the Les Beaumont Immpecable. Claude is the stronger member of the team, using a ground and pound strategy on opponents. WRCW is his first assignment in the UK.

Finisher – Les Couteau (Claude lifts opponent onto shoulders, Eric leaps off turnbuckle and hits spinning kick

    Clint Reavis

Clint is known for teaming with Tim Read as part of America the Beautiful. They have been on the UK scene for a couple of years, having failed to find their feet in the saturated US market. Their gimmick is stereotypically American.

Finisher – Land of the Free (spike piledriver with assistance from Tim Read)

    Dixon Casablanca

Dixon Casablanca is a cocky upstart from Hollywood, CA,USA. Well, in his own mind at least. He is a well known independent wrestler from the US scene, and is taking a gamble with WRCW. He feels that it’s his time, having paid his dues.

Finisher – The Final Goodbye (Death Valley Driver)

    Duncan Clarke

Duncan Clarke is a powerful brawler from London, England and part of the tag team Towers of London with Mo Wilson. Duncan is young, and still learning. There is no doubting that Duncan will eventually be main event quality.

Finisher – London Bridge (Running powerslam)

    Eric Beaumont

Eric, from Montpellier is the younger brother of Les Beaumont Immpecable. Eric is the high flying aspect of the team
Finisher – Les Couteau (Claude lifts opponent onto shoulders, Eric leaps off turnbuckle and hits spinning kick

    Flying Fernando Leone

From Madrid, Spain, Fernando Leone started his career on the UK scene as a stereotypical matador. He’s now left the gimmick behind and is a high flying star, looking to make his name in WRCW.

Finisher – Catch Me if You Can (Flying cross body off top turnbuckle)

    Francois LeClerc

French powerhouse from Paris, Francois LeClerc has been a journeyman wrestler, never settling for a long time in anyone place. Francois is looking to make WRCW his permanent home.

Finisher – La Toture grande (Torture rack)

    The Doorman Frank Smith

Everybody hates a doorman (or bouncer) right? Frank Smith, from Nottingham, England is a bouncer. Essentially his character was an extension of his day job as a nightclub doorman, but it really caught on and he gets some real heat. He’s entering the twilight of his career having been on the UK scene for years with no real success.

Finisher – You’re Not Coming In (Double handed chokeslam)

    Hitsudo Matsuka

Hitsudo, a 33 year old veteran import from japan will bring some much needed Japanese technical excellence to the tag division that Simon Bedford is trying to establish. Hitsudo teams with Shunsuke Aluko.
Finisher - Matsuka Driver (Tiger piledriver)

    Jason Oddyssey

There is no argument that Jason, from Sheffield, England, is the marquee signing of WRCW. Jason is a legend on the UK circuit holding heavyweight titles all over the UK. He has also been to the US and made his name as a solid midcard technical wrestler. Back in the UK, he will be looking to claim the WRCW Heavyweight title.

Finisher – Dreamweaver (Axe kick e.g Booker T)

    Joe Thomas

Joe Thomas is the play by play commentator for WRCW.

    John McCowan

From Aberdeen, Scotland, John McCowan is part of a new breed of Scottish wrestlers, leaving behind the slow, lumbering style and embracing a high flying style that leaves fans breathless.

Finisher – McCowan Bomb (Senton Bomb)

    Lizzy

Lizzy is the valet and manager of William Prince

    “The Real Deal” Marc McCarthy

Marc McCarthy is from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and the latest in a long line of Canadian wrestlers that “can go”. Marc is well known on the Canadian circuit for his complete package style, and again is seen as a coup for WRCW.

Finisher – The Real Deal (arm trap neckbreaker – like William Regal)

    Mark Duke

Mark is a twenty year old from Reading, Berkshire. He is a complete rookie on the UK wrestling scene, making his debut for WRCW.

    Finisher - Unknown

    Mark Jeffrey

26 year old Mark Jeffrey from Leeds, England is a tag team competitor, teaming with his younger brother,Chris Jeffrey.

    Mo Wilson

Mo Wilson is 25 from London England. Recognised as the least skilful of the two Towers of London, but part of the package. It is thought that when the team eventually do split, Mo will fade into obscurity. Mo hears the criticism and is determined to prove everyone wrong.

    Finisher – Powerbomb

    “The Icon” Nick Green

Nick Green was signed at the same time as Marc McCarthy. Nick is a superb technical wrestler from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. While many see Nick as a “bonus” to the signing of Marc McCarthy, there are many who believe that given a run in the spotlight and the time to develop, Nick will surpass the feats seen by Marc and many others.

    Finisher – Green Stretch (Sharphooter)

    Rexx Calibur

Rexx Calibur is a monster. Pure and simple. A monster from Doncaster, England. Rexx is known for his high angle powerbomb which has ended the career s of several UK wrestlers. Despite this, his sheer size and mass (6’8” 322lbs) has seen him elevated to the main events of several UK wrestling promotions. It helps that he can talk too.

Finisher – Rexx drop (High angle powerbomb – jack knife)

    Shinsuke Aluko

Shinsuke is a 29 year old technician from Japan. Shinsuke teams with Hitsudo Matsuka in WRCW.

    Finisher – Camel Clutch

    Simon Bedford

Simon Bedford is the owner and colour commentator of White Rose Championship Wrestling. Simon set up White Rose out of his hometown of Leeds, England. The White Rose is the symbol of Yorkshire, where the business operates out of. He has vowed not to wrestle, but being at ringside and publicly stating that he is the owner will surely put him in the spotlight.

    Sylvain Dubois

Sylvain DuBois is a cocky wrestler from Lyon, France. Sylvain is a fantastic technical wrestler, learning his style from Catch Wrestling. He is a born leader and but believes he should have everything handed to him and is not so willing to be patient. In a wrestling company based out of Yorkshire where honour and virtue are still highly regarded, it is expected that he’ll get some real heat.

    Finisher – The Guillotine (stunner)

    The Highland Warrior

Masks sell in wrestling. The Highland Warrior is a high flying masked wrestler, brought in to fill out the lower card. Given the merchandise opportunities, and the fact that he is an attraction in Scotland, it is thought that he will be given a bit of a push.

Finisher – The Highland Spring (Huricanrana from top turnbuckle)

    The Odium

The Odium is the darkness in White Rose Championship Wrestling. There are definitely some supernatural forces at work when the Odium is about. He finishes off opponent with brutal and deliberate precision. He has been pushed to the moon because of his dark look and has won many heavyweight titles on the UK scene.

Finisher – The Pentacle (Much like a Razor’s edge)

    The Rockstar

In a time when gimmicks are dying, The Rockstar is the last of a dying breed. From Southampton, England, The Rockstar believes he’s living an 80s rockstar life.

Finisher – Rock n Roll (Flipping filedriver)

    Tim Read

Tim Read teams with Clint Reavis in America the Beautiful. Tim believes in starting all matches with The American National anthem. Sure that will get him over with a UK crowd.

Finisher – Land of the Free (Assits spike piledriver with Clint Reavis)

    Wayne Irvin

Wayne Irvin is a main event player and has been since the late nineties in the UK. Wayne was the leading light in the CWA and gained national fame when he took part in the second TV series of “I’m a Celebrity, get me out of here”. It gives WRCW some national exposure. Wayne has spent the last five years however trying to shake the stigma of being recognised for purely being in a reality TV series.

Finisher – Irvin Shock Drop (Evenflow DDT)

    William Prince

William Prince, from Windsor, Berkshire is, he believes, a member of the royal family His valet is Lizzy. He is a young, high flier with a reputation for short cutting his way to the top.

Finisher – The Royal Flush (Elbow from top turnbuckle)

Nice introduction, do you plan on using TWE to run the shows, or are you merely using it for the wrestler images?

    Best of luck.

The prestigious WRCW Heavyweight title belt. Considered the top belt in the company.

Sponsored by SportsDirect.com, the Television title is considered the seconday title in WRCW. More than anything, it guarantees that the holder gets TV time, as the belt must be defended on every show.

    Thanks

I plan on just using the images. It's just a little too restrictive to do something genuinely creative, I find.

    Re: White Rose Championship Wrestling

Friday Night Wrestling is the flagship show of WRCW. The show airs live on Friday nights from a different live location each time. The fans in attendance are charged £15 per ticket, and get to see a two hour show, plus dark matches, which are taped and used later in the week for Wrestling Overload, the web exclusive show. The weekly PPV is carried by Virgin Media and costs cable users £4.99 per PPV. As it's live, and on PPV, there are no limitations on what the show can do. That's not to say that Simon Bedford will put out hardcore wrestling and T&A...he's a traditionalist, but as they say in wrestling, anything can happen. Friday Night Wrestling will be allowed to evolve into it's own unique, wrestling, entertainment product.

Wrestling Overload is a web exclusive show from White Rose Championship Wrestling. By giving away advertising space to businesses that has already been agreed (i.e. a thirty second advert at beginning of video stream, and in the middle) the show is economically feasible in order to attract viewers to pay for the weekly PPV on a Friday night. The show lasts thirty minutes, and contains pre-taped promos from competitors, one or two matches (taped pre or post weekly live PPV to save on arena costs). In order to ensure people tune in to keep up, the show will be used to further some mid card storylines. The show is released on a Monday, and is available via the WRCW website until the Friday Night Wrestling PPV

I completely agree on that point. I'll be doing my best to keep up with this one as it looks like it could develop into something.

An open letter from White Rose Championship Wrestling Majority Stakeholder, Simon Bedford
Published in daily national newspapers, The Sun, The Daily Mirror and the Daily Star and available online at White Rose Online on Monday December 26th 2011

    Dear Reader

Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas.

Secondly, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Simon Bedford, and I am the Majority stakeholder in White Rose Championship Wrestling.

I'm sure you have heard by now through our aggressive online, TV and media advertising (and if not, where have you been for the last two months), British wrestling is making a triumphant comeback to British television. British Wrestling has not aired for over twenty five years. The reason for this is simple. An American monopoly on wrestling.

Since the last wrestling show aired on British TV, the British wrestling scene has continued under an unintentional veil of secrecy. BSkyB, due to it's deal with a certain American brand could not (and would not) air British wrestling. Terrestrial channels, due to the route that American wrestling decided to take with it's extreme violence and sexual imagery, would not touch a wrestling product for fear of being reported to a broadcasting standards agency. Despite all this the British wrestling scene has thrived and in recent years undergone a real resurgence. Sky TV would have you believe that only a certain brand, or certain wrestlers are capable being charismatic showmen. Sky TV would have you believe that only the Americans can be athletic and agile. Sky TV would have you believe there is only one company out there.

White Rose Championship Wrestling aims to change that. We are going to bring you the best of British, every Friday night on Virgin Media. We'll also bring you a cast of international stars to boot. Join Jason Oddyssey this Friday as he makes his triumphant return to the British wrestling scene after conquering America. Find out what is powering the supernatural star, The Odium. See the very best in tag team wrestling. We've got a proverbial who's who of the British wrestling scene - Rexx Calibur, Wayne Irvin, Dixon Casablanca, Sylvain DuBois, Marc McCarthy and more. Watch as we crown our first Television champion this Friday, and start the search for the first ever White Rose Heavyweight Champion.

Furthermore, I invite you to join us this week for free, thanks to Virgin Media. Consider that our Christmas present to you.

We hope you'll join us, as we prove to you that the British have still got it.

    Merry Christmas

    Simon Bedford
Majority Stakeholder, White Rose Championship Wrestling

*Friday Night Wrestling airs every Friday on PPV on Virgin Media. Friday Night Wrestling will air on Friday 30th January free and unscrambled on Virgin Media channel 804. Further Friday Night Wrestling airs weekly on Virgin Media channel 804, and is on a pay per view basis, charged at £4.99 per show.

The above was a paid for advertisement, Virgin Media, in an attempt to further promote the first ever WRCW event have paid for the first event and offering it free in an attempt to get viewers hooked from the outset. The show will air, unscrambled on Virgin media PPV, and will remain on their on demand service for people to download and sample.
