2004, a year of promise, of expectations, of hope ..... Sadly, when all was looking so, so well in the professional wrestling circuit, with Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero carrying the company as their respective brands Champions, in the eyes of many WWE fans worldwide, the World Wrestling Entertainment dropped the ball bigtime, and along with it, lost the chance to recreate an era in sports entertainment superior to that even of the famed
Attitude Era itself. As would soon be the case, the WWE, after promosing so much, yet delivering so little, inevitably slipped into what many would describe as a stale, perhaps even lackluster state, putting on below average matches, whilst ending reigns of great Champions like Benoit and Guerrero abruptly, starting the reigns of rising stars like Randy Orton far too soon, and making the mistake of pushing talent like Dave Batista and the like, well, at all.
As would be the case over the next few years heading into the modern day era of 2007, the trend, sadly, would continue, as the popularity of the wrestling world began to sink lower and lower. The internet fans, smarks as they are commonly known, contrary to the great years of sports entertainment, consistantly berated the product on a daily basis, as the quality and overall enjoyment of the once great industry, almost became non-existant.
But the question I pose to you today is this; what if? What if instead of letting backstage politics and egos overun what was once a great organisation, what if the WWE and Vince McMahon had faith in their Champions, in their heroes, in their true superstars, and let
wrestling remain the highlight of their
wrestling show. What if they hadn't dropped the ball, what if 2004 evidently did live up to all its hype. Would the critiscm end? Would the love we once all shared for this great buisness remain intact? There is only one answer, one solution, one choice, and that is to turn back the clock, to recreate history and to turn what was once a failure, a disaster, into what will only be described as the most glorious period of wrestling that will ever be witnessed.
