John Layfield Shoots on TNA, PCPW's First Broadcast And More!
Matt Keewee: "John, wecome back to the show, glad to have you on."
John Layfield: "Thank you, glad to be on."
Matt Keewee: "For the past week, we've seen you sign a plethora of wrestlers to contracts, and now it has come to a stop. Are you finished signing guys and ready to move onto the next phase?"
John Layfield: "Yeah, I actually am. We're preparing to do more with the company now."
Matt Keewee: "Looking at the talent that you signed, a lot of them are former TNA talents. In fact, everyone in the company except Dean Hill, Scotty 2 Hotty, Van Dam, Burke, Cabana and of course, yourself have been involved at some point or another with TNA. If you don't like TNA, why have you hired so much of their alumni?"
John Layfield:"It's not their talent whom I dislike, it's the people who run the place. TNA is in this never ending cycle where they work to put over their young talent like AJ Styles and Samoa Joe and a new former World Heavyweight Champion comes in. They were established until Sting and Christian came in. They had to build them up, and they became established until Angle came in. Then they were established until Booker and Foley came in. I feel they were becoming established again....and now Bobby Lashley's here. It'll never end. They'll build their talent up and it'll coincide with a new WWE talent being released. No home grown TNA talent will ever be seen as anything more than a midcarder because of it."
Matt Keewee: "Then how would you have booked it the signees and the young talent?"
John Layfield: "When NWA took their World Title back, if I was TNA I'd of acknowledged it. I would have taken it as a bonified start over. Angle wins the Title and becomes the first TNA World Champion. Acknowladge it. I'd of had Sting win it, and given him areal reign. Let Booker win it. Now you have a World Title that means something. Let Booker hold it into the Main Even Mafia storyline, possibly leading them a bit. Jarret tries to take it, in defense of the young guys, but can't do it. Rhino tries, but can't do it. Foley tries, but can't do it. Finally you have Jarret tell Joe or AJ, or any other young guy on the roster that it's their destiny to take the Title. An older guy can't do it, because it isn't right. The young guy wins it, and now he is a main eventer.
Matt Keewee: "Do you think TNA still has a chance to do things for the young wrestlers?"
John Layfield: "Of course. They always have the chance. If they want, they can do it the next show....but one thing they'll never be able to do is feel like TNA again."
Matt Keewee: "What do you mean?"
John Layfield: "When you think of young TNA, who do you think of? Becuase I still think of The Naturals, who I signed; AMW, one of which is still with them; Team Canada of Eric Young, Robert Roode, Petey Williams and Johnny Devine--half of which is still with them and the other half I signed. You think of Triple X, one of which is with them, one of which is with the WWE and the third I signed. You think of Shazarian, one of which is in a bad band and the other is living a video game. Sonjay Dutt and Sabu come to mind, both of which I signed. Monty Brown and 3-Live Krew do too, and both are nonexistent in TNA. I have a good fraction or the wrestlers that made them who they are today, and I have them because they were cast asside."
Matt Keewee: "With all due respect, not that those guys don't have something to do with how people view TNA, but don't you think that Jeff Jarret, Abyss, AJ Styles. Samoa Joe and a singles Christopher Daniels were more influential, all of which are still with the company."
John Layfield: "You're absolutely right. That's where we stake our creativety. We're using the same tools they did, but it doesn't mean that we're going to make the same thing. We're going to give 4 new guys a chance to define a company, and let it build from there. 4 after that, and 4 after that. What we're not going to do it take our 4 guys and a fire them twice, turn them into a skittish joke, push them back down to midcard despite their past World Title wins or completely change what made them fans love them in the first place by putting face paint and generic pants on them."
Matt Keewee: "Okay, now John, Amazing Red and Taz have both rumored to have already bailed on your company in favor of TNA. Is this true?"
John Layfield: "Absolutely. They both confronted me first and said they had bigger and better offers so I granted them releases. Congradulations to the, and hopefully they are used in an extent that will showcase them in a correct way."
Matt Keewee: "Will you be issuing replacements?"
John Layfield: "For Taz, yes. I signed Raven, and he has very happily come aboard, and also agreed to end lawsuit attempts against the WWE as part of the deal. As for Red, no I haven't. I eventually will, but at this moment it isn't needed."
Matt Keewee: "'When will your first show be, John?"
John Layfield: "May 9th is going to be our first show. We'll have our first 2-Hour Pay-Per-View."
Matt Keewee: "On a Wednesday?"
John Layfield: "We have a new approach to this. Each Wednesday will be out one hour show, Respect. Every fourth Wednesday will be a two hour Pay-Per-View and our first is Alpha Omega."
Matt Keewee: "Alright, John, that's about it. Thank you for stopping by again, but one last question."
John Layfield: "What is that?"
Matt Keewee: "You recently signed Karen Angle, what is the deal with that?"
John Layfield: "She approached us and said she wanted to be apart of our programming. I don't know if it's to spite Kurt or not. I don't care. I feelas though she can add to the programming."
This is pretty good, man. As someone else mentioned, the slow process of signing the talent and building the whole company was nice, and seemed pretty realistic. The roster is okay, but I think they need that one name to set them apart just a bit. RVD's a pretty damn good addition though. Hoping you really give Cabana a push, though I'm interested what the "Cult" bit is about. Looking forward to the first show!
