Re: TNA: Under new Management

I've got to agree with too many knockout matches. not sure about Matt Morgan being pushed to the main event scene. He just doesn't do that much for me. Though, its something different so i will give you credit for that. The PPV looks kind of lackluster to me (not a fan of the six man tag match), but its not one of the bigger name PPV's, so that makes sense.

Erick Stevens

Brutus Magnus continued his open challenges tonight and much like last month, it was accepted by a non TNA contracted wrestler in the form of Erick Stevens. Magnus used every short cut he could think of to prevent the impressive Stevens from gaining momentum. Magnus thought he had the win when he hit the Tormentum but the cocky pin allowed Stevens to kick out at two. Stevens got a second wind and finally got momentum on his side. Stevens hit a big splash in the corner and attempted to finish Magnus with a power bomb. Magnus wasn’t having any of it and fought out of it. Stevens continued his assault until Magnus again took a short cut and raked the eyes of Stevens. Magnus hit a modified tombstone piledriver to pick up the three count.

Result: Brutus Magnus via Pinfall.

Sheik Abdul Bashir and Chase Stevens

Bashir and Stevens didn’t care much for the X-Division style of wrestling and thus wrestled a slow and deliberate pace in an attempt to wear down the rookie Cody Deaner. Stevens and Bashir took turns in inflicting as much damage as they could on the youngster but neither man made any attempt to get a pinfall. It seems like a softening up mission tonight for Team TNA. Bashir hit Deaner with the W.M.D. but instead of going for the pin fall went to the Camel Clutch to force a submission. Eric Young had enough and ignored the referee’s count to save his partner. Young hit several dropkicks in series on both Stevens and Bashir before taking Stevens out with a Death Valley Driver. Young would follow up with the Wheelbarrow Neckbreaker on Bashir before Deaner put the finishing touches on with a Moonsault from the top rope to Bashir for the three count.

Result: Eric Young and Cody Deaner via Pinfall.

Team 3D

The two long term rivals were both out to simply hurt the other team first and get the win second. Hernandez started the strongest as he manhandled both Devon and Ray with ease. Homicide decided to let the big man take care of business in the ring and thus left to ring to grab a table and slide it inside along with a steel chair. Hernandez dumped Brother Ray over the top rope meaning he lands hard on the thin mats. Homicide meanwhile shows Brother Devon to his seat by smashing him across the back several times with the chair. Hernandez took this time to set up the table in the corner. As Homicide finally let up on the chair shots Hernandez pulled the hurting Devon back to his feet and positioned him for a Border Toss into the table. Brother Ray made the save with a trash can to the head of Hernandez and then to the head of Homicide. Ray whipped Homicide into the table but he was able to stop himself from hitting it and ending the match. As Homicide turned back to Ray he got a taste of hi own medicine thanks to a steel chair shot from Brother Ray. Homicide fell backwards and landed against the table but didn’t break it. Brother Ray placed the dented trashcan against the chest of Homicide and took aim with the steel chair. Hernandez grabbed the chair off of Ray and sent it into his ribs before bending it across his back. Brother Devon has decided to bring a second table into the ring just in case. Hernandez spotted Devon and decided a kick to the chest was needed. The stiff kick knocked the wind out of Devon long enough for him to set up the table in the centre of the ring. Hernandez then pulled Devon back to his feet before smashing his head off the table several times. Hernandez then rolled Devon onto the table and turned his attentions to Brother Ray. Ray went back to his roots with a low blow on the big man to stop him dead. Ray made use of the trashcan lid as he used it to beat Hernandez out of the ring and to the floor. Ray then threw the lid at him for good measure. Homicide has recovered and looks to hit the Gringo Cutter on Ray but Ray shoves him off. Homicide keeps going and hit’s the ropes to pick up some speed for his next attack. Homicide unknowingly helps Team 3D as he then cant stop himself from running into Brother Devon who hoists Homicide into the air for Ray to slam back down with a 3D through the table for the victory.

Result: Team 3D via Table Break.

Team 3D don’t get much time to celebrate as Hernandez is back in the ring and he is pissed. Hernandez goes to town on Devon’s skull with a kendo stick before giving Ray a taste of it as well. With both members of Team 3D down and hurting, Hernandez decides to bring in another table and get some payback. Hernandez sets up the table in the middle of the ring and pulls Devon over to him. Hernandez sets up for a power bomb but Ray saves his partner with the same kendo stick that Hernandez used. Devon shoved Hernandez off the ropes as Ray quickly made his way around the other side of the table to crash Hernandez through a table just like his partner minutes earlier. Team 3D stand tall in the ring as they look down on the fallen members of L.A.X. in the ring.

Taylor Wilde and the Governor

Taylor Wilde wrestled much of the match as both Velvet Sky and Angelina Love looked to isolate her from the Governor and get some payback for her beating them twice in recent weeks. Sky and Love used every underhanded tactic they could think of as Rudy Charles was easily distracted by their assets to allow the other to do some damage on Wilde behind the referee’s back. Velvet Sky pulled Rudy Charles to the centre of the ring which allowed Love and Rayne to choke Wilde with the tag rope before spraying her eyes with some hairspray for good measure. The Governor lost her patience and broke past the referee to save her partner. Taylor Wilde cleared her eyes and got going again to put the Beautiful People on he defensive. Wilde hit the German Suplex on Love but Sky broke the count. Sky sent Wilde into the corner before The Governor speared Sky down and out of the ring. Madison Rayne grabbed the leg of Wilde to trip her as she went for Angelina Love again. Love took her chance and hit’s the Lights Out before picking up the three count.

Result: The Beautiful People via Pinfall.

With the match over Madison Rayne doest need to sneak around anymore and goes right after the Governor. Sky and Rayne manage to get the upper hand and send The Governor in the steel steps to take her out of play. Mi Pi Sexy surround Taylor and things look bad for the former Knockouts Champion. Taylor tries to escape but is quickly caught by Mi Pi Sexy and receives a beating. Just as things were looking really bad for Wilde, Sarah Stock made her return to TNA when she charged down the ramp and took out Rayne with a running bicycle kick to the face. Rayne falls to the mat before rolling out of the ring. Velvet Sky is next to tackle Stock and ends up receiving a tilt a whirl backbreaker which causes Sky to scream out in agony. Sarah Stock and Angelina Love go toe to toe before the punches are thrown at each other. Stock gain the advantage and hit’s a sit out power bomb to leave all three members of Mi Pi Sexy down and out. Stock helps Wilde back to her feet before checking on the Governor on the outside.

Backstage now and we see the number one contender for the TNA Knockouts Championship Christy Hemme making her way to the entrance tunnel. Along the way, Hemme is stopped by Knockout Law Traci Brooks. Traci wishes Hemme luck and tells her she has a back-up plan just in case. Hemme is confidant and says she doesn’t plan on needing a back up plan but is glad to have one anyway. Hemme and Traci hug each other before Hemme continues on her way to the ring.

Christy Hemme

Kong was not pleased to see Hemme back and gunning for her title again having come so close to losing the last time they faced each other. Kong as a result used her vast power advantage to devastating effect as she tossed the smaller Hemme around like a rag doll. Hemme was getting completely dominated and needed to catch a break, she got that break when Kong decided to try and kill Hemme with the Awesome Press. Hemme seen it coming and got out of the way to send Kong face first into the mat. Hemme jumped on the back of Kong and put in a sleeper as tight as she could in an attempt to slow down Kong’s offence. Kong struggled through and got back to her feet with Hemme on her back. Kong started to charge backwards into the corner but Hemme quickly jumped down and Kong sent herself into the corner. Hemme climbed to the second rope and hit a Tornado DDT. Not content with that, Hemme again went to the second rope and hit the FFG. Hemme knew that wasn’t going to keep Kong down so went back to the second rope and again hit the FFG before putting her entire weight onto the chest of Kong. Even that wasn’t enough as Kong kicked out at two. Maybe Hemme needs that backup plan after all. Before Kong could get back to her feet Hemme went to the top rope this time and hit a diving splash to the back of Kong as she was starting to get back up. Hemme stuck with what was working and again went to the top rope but this time hit a double foot stomp to the back of Kong’s head. Kong drops and isn’t moving as Hemme struggles to turn her over. Hemme manages to turn Kong over but Kong kicks out again. Hemme takes a few steps back as Kong starts to sit up. Hemme bounces off the ropes and kicks Kong square in the face with a running kick. Kong falls back, Hemme drops on top and picks up the three count just before Kong can kick out.

Result: Christy Hemme becomes the NEW TNA KNOCKOUTS CHAMPION via Pinfall.

Hemme is awarded her new title after the final bell but her celebrations get cut short when Awesome Kong comes back for revenge. Kong clubs Hemme from behind before Raisha Saeed lays in the kicks. Kong hoists Hemme up and slams her back down with the Implant Buster but she isn’t finished yet. Kong sets up for an Awesome Bomb but shoves Hemme away when she spots Roxxi coming down the ramp. Roxxi was injured by Kong at Lockdown and apparently she isn’t going to let Kong injure another knockout. Roxxi goes toe to toe with Kong and even gains the advantage until Kong bails out rather than risk getting embarrassed.

Backstage now where Lauren is standing by with Kevin Nash and Matt Morgan. Lauren asks Morgan about the chance he has been given tonight to which Morgan claims he wasn’t given anything, he had to take it. Morgan says he took everything the fat slob had to offer and he came back for more before beating his fat ass clean in the middle of the ring. Morgan says no-one can question his worth to TNA and after tonight, no-one will question his ability or determination again.

Lethal Consequences

Beer Money Inc made no secret of their game plan as they taunted Creed into starting before isolating him and doubling teaming him in their corner for much of the match. Beer Money let their ego get the better of them as they decided to play to the crowd following a double suplex. The result was Creed crawling to his partner and tagging in the fresh Jay Lethal. Lethal upped the tempo and had the champions on the ropes after hitting Storm with the Lethal Combination. Lethal would have picked up the win had Roode not made the last second save. Lethal continued to build the momentum until Roode poked him in the eye to gain some rest bite. Storm connected with the Last Call to Lethal to cause even more damage. Creed has regained his breath and looks for a little payback for the beating he had been on the wrong end of for several minutes. Creed hit Storm with the Death Valley Driver before taking Roode down with the Creed-D-T. Creed made the cover but Earl Hebner insisted that Lethal was the legal man. Creed argued it and ended up getting shoved to the outside by Storm. Storm followed Creed out and sent him rib first into the steel guardrail. Back in the ring, Lethal tries for the Lethal Combination but Roode tries to block it. Storm slides back in and hit’s the Last Call to the back of the head of Lethal allowing Roode to turn it around and hit the Payoff for the three count.

Result: Beer Money Inc retain via Pinfall.

After the bell has sounded, Beer Money Inc begin their traditional beer bash in celebration of yet another successful defence. Consequences Creed meanwhile slides back into the ring with a very disappointed look on his face as he doesn’t check on Lethal but instead argues with Earl Hebner about Hebner refusing to count a few minutes ago. Hebner isn’t interested and walks away. As Lethal gets back to his knees Creed finally decides to check on his partner.

Backstage and the Machine Guns are standing by with Lauren. Alex Shelley claims that tonight is the night the X-Division title is returned to its rightful owner, or the rightful owners best friend. Chris Sabin agrees with Shelley that one of them will leave as champion, the other will be the first to get a title match. Sabin says tonight is the beginning of the Detroit Dynasty of the X-Division. After the next match, the X-Division title will never leave Detroit again.

Chris Sabin

A high paced match that we know the X-Division for stole the show tonight as all four men were seemingly willing to die in order to capture the gold again. Sabin and Shelley looked to have outsmarted their opponents when Sabin sent Kazarian sailing over the top rope before Shelley sent Rave shoulder first into the ring post. The Machine Guns turned to each other and had a quick game of rock, paper, scissors that Sabin won. Shelley as a result dropped to his back and allowed Sabin to cover him. Kazarian made the save just in time to keep the match going. From here on out it was total non-stop action with all four men risking their life to try and get the victory. Shelley hit the Sliced Bread on Rave before Kazarian hit a vicious Pump Kick to send Shelley into the ring corner. Kazarian lifted Shelley to the top rope and hit the Flux Capacitor. Jimmy Rave recovers and hit’s a swinging neck breaker on Kazarian before Sabin hit’s a missile dropkick to the chest of Rave. Sabin pulls Rave to the centre of the ring and hit’s the Cradle Shock. Kazarian breaks the count at two and hits Sabin with the Wave of the Future. Shelley clubs Kazarian in the back before hitting the Shell Shock. Shelley bends over as he is getting back up with gives Rave the opportunity to Rock the World and pick up the three count to retain.

Result: Jimmy Rave retains via Pinfall.

Backstage to the locker-room of the Main Event Mafia. Sting is addressing Booker T and Scott Steiner but Morgan and Nash are nowhere to be seen. Sting tells Steiner and Booker that they may be in a three on two match tonight as he doesn’t think Nash’s head is in the right place right now. Sting says he needs Steiner and Booker to bring their A-Game tonight and stop the run of defeats against the Frontline. Sting says he is looking for a clean sweep tonight from the true members of the Mafia.

AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels

The Frontline used their speed to their advantage as they simply took turns in wearing out the older Mafia members. With Nash and Steiner exhausted and needing a rest it was up to Booker to try and get the Mafia back into it. Booker used his usual shortcuts to get the upper hand on Daniels and work him over in the corner while his team mates recovered. Booker hit the Book End but opted not to go for the pin with Styles and Joe waiting on the apron. Steiner was first to recover and get tagged back in. Steiner hit the Steiner screwdriver on Daniels to give the mafia the big advantage. Nash was tagged in and he attempted the Jacknife to take Daniels out of the equation but Daniels slid out and took out the knee of Nash. Daniels crawled to his corner but Steiner and Booker broke in and prevented the tag. Samoa Joe has had enough and comes in to get involved illegally. Styles waits on the ring apron until Nash gets back to his feet. Styles springs to the top rope and hits Nash with the flying forearm. Nash stumbles back and falls into the corner. Booker hits Styles with a leg lariat before following up with the Axe Kick. Daniels gets enough of a breather to recover and hit Booker with the Last Rites. Daniels goes for Steiner but so does Joe. Steiner gets out of the way causing Joe to hit Daniels with a running boot. Steiner takes out the knee of Joe as Nash hit’s the dazed Daniels with the Jacknife Power bomb for the three count.

Result: Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner and Booker T via Pinfall.

The Mafia don’t hang around and quickly exit the ring and start their celebrations on the outside. AJ Styles has climbed back into the ring and is pissed. Styles checks on Daniels as Joe gets back to his feet. Joe doesn’t check on Daniels but instead exchanges words with the Mafia on he outside. Styles helps Daniels back to his feet as Joe continues to make threats towards the Mafia. Daniels goes to Joe and spins him around to question his actions. Joe shoves Daniels off and continues to argue with the Mafia. Daniels spins Joe around again and gets punched in the jaw for his actions. Styles shoves Joe off and Joe simply walks away. Daniels gets back to his feet and lets Joe know that he isn’t happy.

Backstage with Jeremy Borash is the King of the Mountain, Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett proudly says he has an announcement to make. Jarrett says as of Wednesday coming, he is officially cleared to wrestle again. Jarrett says the ball is now in Angle’s court. Jarrett says he doesn’t know how much longer Angle will be out, but it cant be much longer. Jarrett tells Angle that they still have some unfinished business to take care of.

Matt Morgan

Sting offered Morgan a handshake before the match, Morgan responded by flipping off the champion. Sting used his experience to his advantage as he let Morgan burn himself out early on before taking over with a slower and more methodical pace. Sting knew he wasn’t going to overpower Morgan and decided to work on the knees of Morgan in preparation for the Scorpion Death Lock. Sting hit several Stinger Splashes before Morgan slid out of the way and pulled Rudy Charles into the firing line. As Sting made sure Rudy wasn’t dead, Morgan went off the ropes and hit the Carbon Footprint. Morgan knew he was in control but wasn’t going to be able to get the pin soon so he went and brought a steel chair into the action. Morgan stalked Sting before smashing him in the head with the chair. Morgan slams the chair down onto Sting’s chest for good measure. Morgan pulls the barely conscious Sting back to his feet and sets up for the Hellavator. Just as Morgan is about to lift Sting the lights go out in the arena. After a few seconds of Darkness, Down in the Catacombs plays and Abyss marches out of the entrance tunnel. Abyss, in his old black attire, gets to the top of the ramp where he stops and looks back. The camera pans over to show what he was looking at. Father James Mitchell. Mitchell points to the ring and hit’s the Doomsday Button. Abyss screams and charges to the ring. Abyss slides in and duck the Carbon Footprint from Morgan, Morgan goes off the ropes and runs back into a Black Hole Slam! Abyss grabs Rudy Charles and drags him over to the downed Morgan as Sting crawls across to make the pin. Abyss leaves the ring and heads back up the ramp as Rudy Charles comes to and counts the three.

Result: Sting retains via Pinfall.

Sting is handed his TNA World title after the match but he doesn’t seem to know who he is let alone that he is still the champion. Sting gets his arm raised in victory as we go off the air at Sacrifice.

Apart from Jimmy Rave retaining the title, and lowering its prestige. Top booking

TNA Wrestling are proud to announce that the World X Cup is returning for 2009 but with a slight change in the format. Unlike in previous years, the matches will not take place on iMPACT! as they will instead take place in Japan, Canada and Mexico. TNA will however be showing all the matches live on TNAWrestling.com before archiving them on TNAWrestling.com so that they can be viewed at your leisure. The finals will take place live at Hard Justice in August. With that, TNA are proud to announce the teams are as follows:

Team TNA
Suicide (Captain)
Chase Stevens
Sheik Abdul Bashir
Shark Boy

Team Canada
Eric Young (Captain)
Cody Deaner
Petey Williams
Johnny Devine

Team Japan
Tanahashi (Captain and IWGP World Champion)
Kiyoshi
Naruki Doi
Masato Yoshino

Team International
Mistico (Captain)
Sonjay Dutt
Alex Koslov
Nigel McGuinness

Two men from each team will also compete in the returning Super X Cup. The Super X Cup will begin on Thursday and the final will take place at Slammiversary on June 25th. The winner of the Super X Cup will then be guaranteed a future TNA X-Division title match.

Many people have been asking about Nigel McGuinness being named on Team International as part of the TNA run World X Cup. McGuinness’ ROH contract expires on June 20th. He wont be making an appearance under the TNA banner until sometime after Slammiversary depending on how the draw works out for him. Slammiversary is held on June 21st this year and ROH don’t use the No Compete clauses that WWE and sometimes TNA use so this situation is all above water. This means TNA can use Nigel McGuinness anyway they want after that date, but it also means he wont be a part of the Super X Cup. It’s also now safe to assume that the rumours of McGuinness leaving for a new challenge are true.
