I've always found the Joe/AJ matches to be superior to the triple threat match. AAO one is the best though.
2005, lets see, Angle/HBK from WM21 for sure, Orton and Christian had a great forgotten match on Raw in February (I think).
Oh, and Awesome/Tanaka at One Night Stand.
Just watched the Orton/Christian match and it was pretty damn good. Can't ever recall Orton working a stiff as he did there, potatoed Christian quite nicely and welted his chest up too.
Not sure wether to include One Night Stand, but I'm leaning towards allowing it.

Yeah, what I meant is wether to count the show as WWE even though it was an ECW show booked by ECW bookers with ECW talent in the ECW arena. Like I say I lean towards yes, though.

Ah... is it bad that I didn't even know it was booked by ECW bookers?
I'm not sure, but I'd say it was a WWE PPV so it should count.

Out of those listed, I definitely think that the two HBK/Angle matches were the two best matches of 2005. Except, I don't know which of the two I like better. Their Wrestlemania match was gold, but so was their match at Vengeance. I actually saw the Vengeance match live as it was here in Las Vegas so seeing it live was a whole different experience then just watching it on DVD.

Okay, someone's going to have to help me here. Was this the year of the Regal/Benoit and London/Akio Velocity matches? If so, there's two perfect examples of hidden gems right there.

Perfect example of really strong, unique booking creating an awesome match. This was part of the build up to Batista's face turn and the angle going in is about wether he will turn on HHH and win or not. Opening section between Benoit and Jericho is awesome as they dish out insane chops. Edge doesn't really add much but everyone else is awesome here. Plenty of brutality and violence, blood, some cool spots and I really liked the way they work the angle, especially the epic staredown between Hunter and Batista. Really does an excellent job of laying the seeds for the face turn. Great match.
