Rep Power: 25 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I hope you chose the right god. In general: I wrote a paper in western civ - an undergrad class in wh we read the creation stories, a bit more of old and of new testament and all of the (very repetitive) quran among many other books. So I wrote a paper saying what would happen if a guy in the present day was sitting in a cave and came out saying God was talking to them thru an angel. I compared a present day Muhammad to cult leaders. I predicted he would be deemed crazy by the majority and potentially troublesome in the same fashion as some of America's most notorious cultleaders. The teacher was thrown but I think she liked it. Now I wonder if someone walked around present day, claiming to be the son of god, what kindof reaction would he get. (Not that we haven't had a few of those anyways).

The statements aren't really bad or good though, however, The Buddha did say them well before the big JC did.

He was not liked by most people and lived a life of poverty while on Earth. We as Christians know that he suffered through this so that we can be free. He broke the yokes of bondage by doing this and gave us the opportunity for everlasting life. He didn't have to suffer like that while on earth. He didn't have to die on the cross for our sins but he loved us so much he did. He could have destroyed those that persecuted him on earth but he suffered through it with the good of us on his mind. When he returns to earth though he will return in clouds of glory, the king of kings, the lord of lords.

As far as your paper, sadly it's true in today's society. Nowadays people think that if someone hears God speaking to them that they're crazy. I personally can't stand that line of thought. And yes, someone claiming to be the son of God today would be quite...crazy admittedly. We'll know Jesus Christ when we see him, so we know the loons (like the guy at Waco about ten years back) who claim to be Him really aren't. ;) As far as back in the time that Christ was really alive, however, the only reason the Pharisees didn't believe that Jesus was the Son of God or the Messiah was because they had a different idea of who the Messiah would be, so when Jesus said he was the Son of God, it was no surprise that the priests were offended and shocked.
| When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. ...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. Luke 21:20-28 | |||

As far as Buddha goes, again we're mentioning a god that is considered a pagan god in my religion. Mentioning something he said proves nothing to me.
